kitty kelli that is!  kelli is the rock of shady hollow flea market.  she not only runs her fantastic little clothing shoppe, works full time besides but is a farm girl too!  ontop of all that she is responsible for the creation of shady hollow blogspot {click here} and the wonderful promotional materials + events that continue to get the word out about our special little world in lakes country!  Thanks kelli for all you do!

what can you buy for the price of {1} gallon of gas?

not much these days...right!?  well my friends...let's just say I awoke this morning early and decided to take in {1} rummage sale that caught my attention in the paper.  and to quote..."old wood, antiques & quilts." say no more....I am off! 

now, I don't know about your neck of the woods, but sometimes I happen on sales & thrift stores with items tagged a bit beyond silly high! well, this wasn't such an occasion.  in-fact the prices were so low I thought they were mismarked!  

join me as I revisit my delightful selection of goodies...so reasonably priced that everything shown was just a tad more than the price of one gallon of gas here in town...currently $2.51 a gallon.  subject to change at any moment of course! 

the little cash register flags reflect what I paid...and they looked darn cute too!

I have been wanting a shaving mirror for our bathroom for a long time! I see them now & then but they don't thrill me at $20 and up.  well, this little honey {below} was...yes...$.75.  can you stand it?

now that I have your attention!  take a little looksie at this {below}...so incredibly cute I could do the happy dance! a tiny heart shaped vial on a pin.  in original box.  for the price of one US quarter!

how can it get any better than this, right?  well ladies & gentleman...hold onto your hats...don't be green...and have a gander at my best find EVER!  this old leaded glass window {below}.  not a piece broken and yes, the tags are correct!  this just shows that sometimes the early bird does indeed get the worm!  I pranced like nobody's business when I saw this!  really!  can you blame me?  

 

after that winning stop I decided to call it quits and didn't go to one more sale!  as I scurry around tonight getting things in order for our second weekend open at the hollow I just had to sit myself down and do a little show & tell...this was one outing worth the mention!  thanks for following along on my thrifty adventure!  and remember...sometimes a gallon of gas can go a long way!  happy day!  beth

back in the saddle again!

greetings everyone!  after a week of no computer...I am so excited to announce that I am back on-line - up & running with a brand spank'n new Mac!  We decided to make the switch from the PC world to Mac for various reasons & I think this is going to be a great learning experience!  now...if I can just learn to use this very teeny tiny keyboard I'll be set!

not only am I back in the computer "saddle" but I had a wildly fun & successful first weekend at the shady hollow flea market!  the weather on saturday & sunday was as close to perfect as it could be!  and seeing all the familiar summer faces along with many new ones makes all the crazy hours & prep so worth it! on that note...I'd like to send out {2} very BIG thank yous...

*1st* to my hardworking friends & family...for all the hours they put in to make opening weekend possible!  thanks a million all...especially my wing girl kami...couldn't do it without you!  & 

*2nd* to my wonderful customers...your enthusiasm and support make this dream a reality...I can't express enough how grateful I am for you!

PLUS+ I had the greatest pleasure of meeting my "prize" winner...nancy from duluth!  she was in town & popped in to say hello wearing her prize necklace and bearing the nicest thank you card!  it absolutely made my day...I wish I could have chatted with you more, nancy!  thank you for your encouraging words & for making the effort to come by!

welcome to my cottage entry door {below}  I painted it in my favorite shade of kind of aqua...kind of gray green. the "hang" sign is one of my creations as is the "junkyard" heart I made with pale pink beadboard and misc. letter bits!  and those stars...ooooh....stars.  in-case you haven't noticed, I am a star fanatic! don't you want to kiss them and their pastel loveliness?  they are created by the PA amish from recycled barn metals.  love em...

this is a corner {below} of my little world.  I like to showcase a fun mixture of merchandise in every nook & cranny!  the cordials display ranks right up there as all time favorite display.  ok, I say that alot...but this is pretty far up there!

crash boom bang!

greetings all!  I am {2} days away from my reopening for summer at my cottage!  so very exciting! 

and in the midst of all the crazy last second running around my computer decided to take an early summer vacation!  in other words...crash BOOM bang!  wow!  it's hard to explain how much I rely on our computer for patinaWHITE & many daily activities!   we are making due with early morning pop-ins at my wonderful in-laws but I am afraid that my posts will be short & sweet until I hopefully can salvage what's left of our hard-drive next week.

*the art of display*

hello show & tell friends!  as I continue to merchandise my cottage at the shady hollow market in anticipation of our memorial weekend opener - I took a couple shots of some fun displays I thought I would share with ya all!  I spend nearly as much time taking notes~mental planning & execution of displays as I do finding & creating the goodies to sell!  merchandising has always been an area of interest...and I believe it is an important tool in the magical world of retail to keep things fresh & inspirational!

this little cabinet {below x 2} was a nondescript "new" piece that begged to have a little patinaWHITE magic worked over it!  I added weathered folding rulers to the edges of all sides and then highlighted the corners with vintage letters and bingo pieces for a touch of whimsy!  it proudly holds some of my little treasures & is a great way to not only highlight tiny trinkets but also provide some height to my jewelry corner!  you'll also notice my beloved "half scale" mannequin.  small in size but grand in presentation...she has to be one of my favorite finds!  she is right at home nestled in the array of bauble selection! 

 

and a little closer up here for your viewing pleasure...

always searching for a way to showcase necklace layers...I came up with the idea to cut out neck forms {below x 2} from wood...paint them with chalkboard paint...suspend them from a vintage hanger dolled up with fun sayings from re-purposed letters and VOILA!  a unique way to not only feature necklaces but provide a functional means to show the prices~I am so THRILLED at how they turned out!  my most supportive husband was even impressed commenting I should make them for resale! :)  now if I could only find that little extra time to do so!

 

so ends a little peek at my tiny cottage in which I "artfully" display things in every nook & cranny!  I thought I would sign off for now with a little fellow {below} who thinks "outside the box" even though he is featured "in the box" ~ encased in a vintage gilt frame.  I love this stag for his "less than serious" approach to display!

rainbow bright!

my opportunities to "chat" with all you wonderful blogsters are a bit limited due to the upcoming very GRAND reopening of shady hollow...which is my summer "home sweet home".  I am so excited about the arrival of spring/summer & can't wait to show & tell all about it...

in the meantime...I wanted to share something inspiring today & remembered a most FANTASTIC rainbow I caught last year!   I didn't find my pot o' gold but was in awe of it's beauty ~ hopefully you will be too!

I had the pleasure of working with cari years ago on a wonderful glittery garland for patinaWHITE.  she is so very talented and I loved the fact that we had more than one love in common!  runza anyone??  (a nebraska thing~best burgers & fries around!) :)  and speaking of garland...here is a peek at her masterpiece {below}!  I tote it everywhere with me...it's summer home is hanging above my checkout stand at shady hollow and it spends the rest of the time adorning my displays at my event & in my home!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it...

i'm feeling very...

   

as one of my favorite necklaces I designed above says...LUCKY!  I have just recently completed my basement "MAKE" room.  after all...I love to "make" alot of things! 

a big thank you to my mom for being the driving force behind me...keeping my often wandering mind on task!  thanks mom!  I am "lucky" to have such a wonderful person like you in my life!

here is a shot of my MAKE room {below}...the color on the wall was inspired by my collection of ball jars!  oh and the thought of storage!  currently I have stashes of goodies tucked in nearly every nook, cranny, drawer and cupboard in our home!  it will be fabulous to get everything in one place!  I plan on doing that when a chance moment arrives here & there!  the table was brilliantly created by my most talented carpenter friend - thanks terry!  a place to make a creative mess that doesn't involve my kitchen counter, living room floor or dining table!  again..."lucky" me! 

 

I was finally able to display my collection of little porcelain dolls {below} and rows of jars containing beads and baubles...so fun to have a view of the very items that inspire my work!

 

storage...storage...storage... a DREAM come true...

 

 

and tucked in another corner {below} is my multi purpose desk!  a place to solder with everything within an arms reach!  so nice to be on the path to organization!  I like to think it would always be this tidy...but as I always remind myself...a creative mess is better than idle neatness...love that quote~

 

well, now not only do I have multiple junk drawers, but an official "junk basket"!  I stamped the tag proudly to proclaim just that!  every girl has to have some inspiring junk!

 

and with that I am off to the races...my summer cottage is begging to be cleaned and loved a little after a long winter!  less than three weeks to the big opening weekend!  bring on summer!   thanks for taking a peek...this "lucky" girl is very grateful for all life's blessings and a wonderful group of family, friends + customers that are the real inspiration behind all I do & patinaWHITE!  happy day to you!

just a quick note to wish everyone a very happy may day!  without a stitch of candy in the house (problematic sweet tooth of mine-anyone have a good dentist for that?!)...I had to create a make-shift basket for the day!  isn't the tiny vintage silvery basket cute???  HAPPY MAY DAY to you!
