a time to celebrate...

greetings friends!  as I get some goodies together for the "hollow" I just had to share this little cutie. {below}.  it is always time for a celebration!  celebrate the BIG things that happen & don't forget to celebrate the little things too!   and with that....I'm going to make this short...sweet...and celebrate all my wonderful blessings!  happy day!  beth

 

it's in the cards

hip hip hooray!  my freshly redesigned business cards are here & I i'm in love~

they wouldn't have made it to press without the wonderful HOPE from paper relics...many thanks, hope, for your help in making them possible!

the time came to update patinaWHITE's business cards which took me on a search for a most unique solution.  I found a printer who offers amazing techniques and fell for the square card with rounded corners.    it was important to me to have a card that not only was a reflection of patinaWHITE but also be a card that you want to save! 

I love that they are front & back sided.  one thing I have noticed thru the years is that people use business cards to jot down notes.  I thought I would get them off on the right foot & had the back done up with lined paper and a "NOTES 2 SELF" header!   and without further ado~here they are...

I have pages of cards that I have gathered & admired thru the years.  I find inspiration in them and appreciate the thought + design process in creating each and every one...such is the case of the page of  cards {below}.

a corner of my world {the heart of home}

why hello everyone!  I am trying a new segment called "a corner of my world" in which I will take you on a mini blog-land tour bus of a little place we like to call home.  beginning today {wed} and following wednesdays I will showcase a section of our house for you all to see & enjoy!  I have been asked on multiple occasions to do a home tour...so won't you please hop on the bus and join me for a little jaunt of the heart of our home...the kitchen & dining areas!

a friend of our's built the cabinets to my specs.  I do believe he retired shortly after that project! :)  I wouldn't change a thing...except maybe finishing the touch ups that are waiting patiently to be completed {4} years later.  that darn to do list!
 

here is a close-up of the lights above our breakfast bar...they are from rejuvenation hardware -  I added the twisted cloth covered cord and then I patiently scoured eBay for months {from two different sellers no less!} to get the vintage milk glass shades.  we finished them off with reproduction edison bulbs!  they are beyond words...they cast an amazing glow at night...well worth the time it took!

collections collections everywhere!  above the stove is housed my most beloved ironstone!  it is not only there for looks but I also grab pieces to put to good use!  all about beauty and function!

our kitchen window {below} overlooks our backyard...I have a couple birdfeeders within sight & I'm always thrilled to see new birds stop by!  last year I had a woodpecker pass thru that was the size of a small airplane! 

it is hard to see in the pic but the sill is lined with my vast {yes, another collection} of frosty apothecary bottles.  the counters are actually salvaged from a home and were the hardwood FLOORS!  I think they turned out splendid after many of moon of belt sanding + coats upon coats of sealer!  I paired them with the breakfast bar done in concrete as shown {2 above}!  a nice contrast of industrial modern with country farmhouse if I do say so myself! 

our house is not big in scale by any means.  infact, I designed it to be quaint.  adjacent to the kichen is our dining area {below}.  though bill & I seldom "dine" here {tv trays anyone?} it is always a favorite gathering area when friends & family come to visit! 

had to include this recent shot of the white lilacs.  I wish they last longer once cut...a springtime fav!  the marble "dish" they rest in is actually all hand carved!  someone worked a labor of love here to make this little {I mean BIG} honey! 

shown here {below} is the command station of our house.  it is a nice place to drop all things such as...keys, change, bills (if those would be considered "nice" to have!) and other nilly willys that come with daily living!  love the phone, no?  too bad it isn't quite to working status yet!  again...the to do list goes on and on....this one being the "honey" do list!  where is that honey of mine?

who "wood" have thought?

hello friends!  as many of you know I work in a great many medias!  I do this not only to keep things fresh and exciting but to engage my mind & hands in various activities!  one area of interest has been wood!  of course I have always been a huge fan of crusty and weathered wood...especially beadboard!  I have spent a great deal of time of the years collecting patina'd woods & stacking it to the ceiling in the back of my studio storage!  I wanted to share with you some recent creations in the wood department.

my "fleur" blocks are a happy marriage of reclaimed farmhouse trims, metal accents and a time worn apothecary bottle...they are very cheerful and make a great accent!!  a fabulous way to showcase your garden flowers!

 

these are something I came up with when I stumbled on a massive collection of old drawers...I simply call them my "junk" drawers {below-2}.  they are lined with vintage beadboard and layered with distressed wooden letters....the lucky is a favorite as it sports a crusty & rusty horse shoe!

you can't see in the photos but the drawers all have their most fabulous old bin pulls still on them...I thought about salvaging them for my own greedy pleasure but they of course make it!  this is a dedication to my favorite tv personality...ELLEN.  she inspires me beyond words and I love that see breaks out into dance on her shows!

now this is partly wood...partly metal but I had to show it because I strutted around like a peacock on thursday when I made it!  I was so tickled with how it came out!  I acquired a box of salvaged metal pieces memorial weekend and they just begged to be played with!  I thought "WINGS"! when I saw them so I paired them with a cast off chair spindle...and TA DA!  junkyard butterfly at her finest!

incase your wondering...I am outfitted with a miter box...table saw...jig saw &.scroll saw.  and I still have all (let me count) 10 fingers!  my husband always is after me to respect the power tools and I do try hard to do so!  every now and then I enlist the talents of my carpenter friend terry but do much of the cutting...glueing...stapling and finish work myself!  on this occasion terry did construct the pockets for the following feature item {below}...but I did the finish work on my end.  a pairing of vintage shutter and pockets = one fun way to house magazines or artsy file folders!  I added the chalkboard tags for customization! gotta love beauty & function!

well on that note I am off to the workshop to see what inspires me this morning!  somedays I have a plan and others I let the materials lead the way!  thanks for stopping...have a wonderful day "wood" you!? beth
