greetings all! i will be taking a short leave of absence as we make the great journey to south dakota for a sturgis get away! we are looking forward to a little time spent taking in the surroundings and "livin' to ride"! so with that...i will be in touch when we return! and hopefully with a good story or two to share!
hey everyone! we are bling'n in a big way at patinaWHITE this weekend! come this sunday, i will be showcasing some "bigger is better" wares for you girls who want to make a statement!
here we are yet again show & tell visitors gathering this wednesday to continue the tour of a "corner of my world"! we will be splishin' & a splashin' thru today's feature corner - our "master" bath. not officially attached to the master bedroom...it really serves as the upstairs main bath.
so as a whole...here's what you see upon entering...a clawfoot tub that holds so much water that i can clear the entire house of it's hot water supply in one sitting..i mean bathing. rusty locker baskets hold early wood gilt letters just incase you need to be reminded where you are.
and on the note of said locker baskets...I hauled those numbers back in a suitcase that just so happened to be flagged for inspection at the airport. you can about imagine the look on the little man's face when he cracked that one open. i watched laughing the whole time...a confused glance my way and I told him "don't ask". with a shake of the head he zipped it up and sent me on my way. i think that is one of the best things about decorating with junk...oh, the stories to share! a mall just can't provide such entertainment!
so onward we go...on the floor {above} rests my friend...let's call him ferdinand. with such a neutral canvas I love the opportunity to use accents you wouldn't expect in a bath. another unexpected figure is that of my weathered rake {below} that houses a small portion of my necklaces. i can see at a glance what baubles beckon to me on a given day.
if you have been following my blog tour of our home you may pick up on my fondness {borderline obsession} with chandeliers. this room was not overlooked as it's crowning glory is a fabulous glass chandelier {below}. I tired of it's whiter than white socket covers so I decoupaged darkened newspapers over them. and to make it a little less fussy being all crystal and such I added a piece of old rosary chain & dangled a sheriff's badge at the bottom in-place of the fancy crystal ball.
and here is a close up of the cuter than cute sheriff's star...
details details...{2 pics above} you will see I used a canvas roman shade as the window covering...I wrapped each side with an "oldie but goodie" cloth measuring tape...love 'em for ribbons and accents!
this little grouping {below} rests between his and her sinks. an old glove form proudly "holds" bracelets...a rusty bed spring has a q-tip ready for action & the lotion bottle...well, let's just say I found the original front "design" a bit ordinary. again, nothing a little glue and paper bits can't solve!
a former stove {below} now resides under the window housing bins & my collection of ocean hued seltzer bottles...they always glimmer in the morning sun! a wonderful swiveling doctor stool is now commissioned to hold a stack of towlels!
well...I hope you have enjoyed a peek at our splashing main bath! so ends todays tour with one more little feature I must show that I can't live without - our rainhead shower! exposed "european" style pipes add vintage flair with modern convenience!

greetings show & tell friends! it all started 4 years ago when, early one morning, my hubby asked me if I had any interest in a mini cooper. not thinking much of i said "sure"....well, seven days later one arrived at his shop & being the very talented fellow he is...he took a tangled mess of metal and made it into the sweet "ride" I still love to this day!
flash forward this spring & my fascination with harleys. again the question arose...any interest in riding your own bike? a hesitant "maybe" & poof my wonderful fella created a customized harley to match the mini...my very own mini me! bill has a wonderful way of making a heck of a lot of something from nothing let me tell you! and on that note...here are my "little" somethings...
hello everyone! i thought it was time we did another *{PRIZE}* giveaway! as i was tinkering with some charms I had ~ this most darl'n bracelet was the end result. it features the {5} simple rules for happiness that I am so very fond of. you can see HERE a little bit of artsy fun I created with those same rules!
well friends! here we are at yet another wednesday! they sure do sneak up fast! and being such it is time for a little tour once again of a "corner of my world". today's feature being the hub of our home! we do a lot of livin' & laughin' and sure are lovin' this area!
I couldn't imagine what I would do without easy care of my slipcovered sofa {below}! we have had it for over seven years now and it looks darn near as nice as the day it arrived! a good soak in oxyclean and a pop in the washer and it's as good as new.
a pair of weathered french club chairs, a vintage mantel and a GIANT clock I created make a cozy little sitting area {below}. the worn leather on the chairs just gets better with time. the seats were a bit tatty so I wrapped vintage chenille around them.
and here is close up of a gathering of old threads nested in a vintage bolt bin...expect the unexpected in our home!
and in lieu of a functioning fireplace I opted to collage the wall in the opening & layer in front of it some great textures in the form of a vintage church relic + rusted iron trimwork.
a view out our front window where you can relax on the sitting bench plumped up with a mixture of vintage & created pillows.
this beaded little number is just grand. I added the oversized prism for a whimsical accent. you'll see in the background some numbers. they are perched on our oversized tv cabinet and just so happen to be our address. in their past life they informed game goers of the score at the ballpark!
while visiting family in nebraska I happened on an antique mall with this steely wonder {below}. not really prepared to find such a treasure with my dad's buick I had to return later that day with my truck. there wasn't any chance I was leaving it...and was well worth the total of 4+hours of drive time! I would have strapped it to my back if necessary to get it back home to minnesota!
details details details...
this patina'd iron european "award" couldn't have fit in more perfect with ornate details...and of course it's color! it hangs from a darkened chain & wrinkly faded ribbon...it gets my vote for the first place!
and today's tour will end in a happy little corner where a crusty pop bottle sign is content to stand next to a bowl of mercury balls {ok...I admit, they're christmas ornaments but mercury balls sounds a bit more glamorous}! the old game board adds some graphic playfulness.

greetings all! as I puttered around our home this beautiful & bright morning I thought I would share with you little this-n-thats cast in the glowing sunshine...
now I know that is probably up there on the top of over used phrases...but it holds such meaning I just had to say it! it is hard to believe how quickly the summer if flying by ! just where does that "time" always go? well, if you find the "time" please make a journey out to visit patinaWHITE at the shady hollow...we will be there every sunday thru labor day + some additional saturdays this summer {check the calendar HERE}!
why hello again everyone! here we are at yet another wednesday {the time is flying by!} which means I am ready to tour off again to a "corner of my world" in a little segment that I feature an area of our home sweet home. the journey started here if you would like to catch up! so, please join me as I showcase a little nook of the upstairs just waiting for guests to arrive!
as I mentioned before our home is small in stature and as cozy as could be! our guest bedroom is so "quaint" that, when we had the house built.. we removed the closet from one side to open up more space! you can imagine my builder's surprise when I requested to take out a closet of the plans! nothing an auction score of a weathered white wardrobe can't fix! it provides plenty of storage and gives the illusion of a larger room!
like the master bedroom this bed {below} is piled to the sky with linens & pillows. again, quite an undertaking creating + destructing for use but what's a bed without a few {dozen} pillows? this room gave me a chance to accent with a color I adore..PINK!
this is a close-up detail of the crushed velvet pillow that truly has amazing details...the colors are delish too! there is a tiny tag sewn on the back proclaiming it's heritage..."made in france". should've known...I am a huge fan of "frenchy" style! it mixes beautifully with my crusty rusty decor to soften things up!
you may have picked up on my fondness for birds and eggs if you have been following my blog. yet another tribute to my avian friends is the real hen eggs in muted tones collected under the glass of a vintage garden cloche. of course mixing in a cross necklace + aqua rosary just sweetens the pot!
just a hanging out on the top of mentioned wardrobe is a collection of doll heads {below}. now I know they may scare some small children & my sister thinks they are strange but I am so fond of their gazes and charming appearances! i thought they deserved the royal treatment and adorned a couple with tiaras.
and in this corner {sounds like a prize fighter} we have a favorite flea find of last summer...a chippy little side chair {below} that is plumped up with...more pillows of course! I spied this chair on the opening weekend of the hollow. and at $6 how could I pass it up? upon getting it home I started tearing off layers of less than ideal fabrics to unearth the final layer of chocolate aqua & pink patterned glory! hurray! this lovely is definitely a champion!
this antique heater {below} actually works! but I prefer to admire it without the prospect of burning down our home so it sits unplugged on the floor. don't you love it's color and the enamel rose in the center? they sure don't make 'em like they used to!
of course I prefer the less than serious aspect of decorating which is why I framed this cutie patootie of a italian beaded sconce in a glorious ornate frame {below}!
and on the subject of lighting...what would a room be without it's crowning glory of a chandelier? another italian charmer {below}, it just oozes character from "above"!

hello everyone! another holiday weekend has come & gone at the hollow and I'd like to thank all the wonderful people for stopping by and making it such great turn out! the weather was perfect in addition! we couldn't have asked for a more ideal weekend! and thank you kelli for coordinating the weekends events and the entertaining pot luck! a perfect mix of friends and food!
a big holiday weekend is the opportune time for seeing vendors that don't always come out for the one day showings. I found myself making an always quick walk thru the field to see the wares. I happened upon the table of martha and gloria from south dakota. though they don't make it up often, they are familiar flea faces as they have been vending at the hollow for years! these girls have a quirky selection of goodies that always catch my eye! and it just so happens that I had to "adopt" a few treasures that I have to show & tell all about!
here we have vintage shoe clips and a beaded rosary {below}. as the old stamps state...I absolutely covet these finds!
I don't believe I could have found a more perfect pairing of timely tarnished silver and turquoise. this little lovely {below} with it's ornate detailing will find a home in my vast collection of baubles. great for layering with other necklaces...I can't wait to wear this one!
always a sucker for storage and little "things", these tiny bottles {below} with original tops will be great homes for bits & beads!
as I poked around their cases I couldn't help but spy this oh so sweet little child's necklace {below}. though it would be a perfect candidate for repurposing in a necklace design I do believe I will just keep it as is for now...the colors and clasp are too darn cute!
and my last treasure find of the weekend was a trio of unique skeleton keys {below}. even though I have an almost silly amount of keys already, something about the V on the one and the cool shape + color of the others just begged to be snapped up! and of course the chain wasn't too bad either!
oh, and I mustn't forget the wonderful generosity of others! after three days of craziness at the hollow I trekked to my truck at the end of the day. along the way I was gifted a GIANT watermelon!
what a kind gesture, not to mention I am never one to turn down such a fine looking melon! many thanks to the great miranda family! and for those of you who are able to make it to the market...the miranda's not only sell a variety of garden wares but they are the masterminds behind the PAPA DIO'S food extravaganza! be sure to grab a breakfast taco or most delish cheeseburger. don't forget the jalepenos! just be sure to save some for me! those of you who know me know that jalepenos are my lifeline! ole!
