hey all! today's continuing wednesday tour of a "corner of my world" {getting down there} has a couple meanings.
first off we are "getting down there" on areas of our home to showcase! i know many of you have enjoyed the home tour + i have been delighted sharing with you. never fear! i will continue to highlight fun "this & that's" and see where it takes us!
in the mean time...we do have a couple more areas i'd like to show and today just happens to be our basement gathering room. so...let's get on down there!
this is taking in the whole picture {below}.
we started this project a few years back & have been picking away at it. i have a bit of tendancy to procrastinate & this project seemed to really put that "skill" to test! but, once we (meaning my mom & her "prod") got rolling, things fell into place & it all came together marvelously!
some of the highlights include...
the ceiling + floor are a reverse of the upper levels. down here you'll find white painted floors & a dark stained pine ceiling in lieu of dark floors & white wood ceilings! you just gotta mix things up once in awhile!
on the far end i had a "false" exposed wood wall built {note above} out of ship-lap and 2x4's to create a cottage feel. again, imagine a carpenter's face when you try explaining you want an exposed stud wall to cover the freshly done sheetrock. i bet they go home at night just shaking their head!
a pair of shutters rest on a wirework shelf. a giant wheel is the perfect spot to clip items of interest!
a vintage postcard rack {below} turned family photo display. it is propped on a piece of architectural salvage that i mounted on the wall.
mirror...mirror on the wall! a collection of old handmirrors gather ontop a faded world map {below} for a space brightening whimsical accent! a crystal beaded ceiling dome replaces the milkglass shade in this functioning vintage floorlamp!
another view of the room...here {below}. note the GIANT railroad bellows in the corner. it provides a fun ledge to house vintage letters. i am still trying to gather the rest of my quote...just need "i love u". i have a small start with the PS!
a old stool {below} of sorts is topped off with a coffee sack plumped up with a feather pillow making a nice footrest or impromptu seat.
and the "coffee table" shown {below} is actually a weathered zinc chick incubator that i mounted to a set of giant old steel casters. i am a big fan of mixing industrial in with cottage country! there are no right or wrongs in my decorating. just a blend of my favorite things!
continuing on with the "farm" theme is a brilliant little windmill {below}. it sat on my porch for awhile before i decided it would be a light hearted accent in the room! i just shopped in my storage & backyard to outfit this room!
of couse this space wouldn't be complete without at least one chandelier. after all...every other nook in the house has one so why stop here! this beaded number hails from italy and just oozes charm. it was missing it's drop accent "prism" so i took the opportunity to feature a clock weight with our namesake {S} on it! remember...little bits of unexpected are what make decorating fun!
lighting up my life is a pair of sweet lamps in the palest shade of my most adored green blue. and topped off with fancy little shades that bring a smile to my face.
and that about covers the lower level gathering room! a labor of love well worth the time spent making it happen!
hope you have enjoyed "getting down" today! thanks for visiting and remember to make it a great day!
