here we go again folks! boy do wednesdays sneak up fast! today we will take a little journey outside the walls of my home to give you a view of the "big picture"! and here we go...
i had made mention in the last "corner of my world" that our house was based on an authentic farmhouse blueprint. i found a plan out of an early 1900's builder book and modified it to make sense for modern living. it had the elements i was looking for to start with...some of which are...
* covered porch...check!
* dormer - you bet!
* steep pitch roof with great lines - bingo!
* bump out window with a "hip" roof - right on!
my high school drafting background provided the basic knowledge i needed to work with a local lumberyard perfecting the layout + adding the non-existant attached garage. a little blood, sweat and alot of tears (those being of the patient subcontractors working with me!) = what you see {below}!
textures play as big as role in creating the outdoor spaces as much as the indoors which is why you will see shakes paired with lap siding and a standing seam metal roof mixed with the asphalt shingles! these small details made a big difference in making the vintage "farmhouse" our unique "home".
lighting details ~ nothing quite like the mixture of industrial galvanized and elegant crystals!

= urban country!
since we live in the country i wanted a driveway that was reminiscent of a road less traveled. which is why I had stamped concrete paths framing crushed rock {below}
trotting around to the back you will find an attached pergola. someday i hope to have vines dripping and weaving their way around the wood beams. right now my vision has been put to rest this year thanks to a hungry pair of deer fawns that found them more irrestitible than i!
i must show you my patio set {below} that resides on the pergola covered deck...i have to say i think it is beyond fabulous! a nice spot to enjoy a backyard bbq!
and moving along to the side is another view of the covered porch...you can see the details of our porch HERE. i believe my four legged friend lucy & her grandma marian do enjoy this spot the most! it is a wonderful spot on a warm, sunny day!
and what would a porch be without the good ol' red white and blue waving in the breeze? {below}
well there you have it folks! now you've seen the "big picture" of a quaint place we love to call home. there are a couple more stops on the tour so we'll be looking for you again next week to continue on! i'd like to end today with a few more pretty pics of garden delights...enjoy!
and what would a garden be without at least {1} crusty & rusty star ? {below}
again, thank you for your continued interest and have a most wonderful day!
