why hello wednesday! won't you join me as we continue on the journey of a little "corner of my world". if you are new to my blog - wednesdays we pack up the tour bus & i showcase a different section of our home. you can start the tour here & peek at past entries! so with that..today just so happens to feature the all important entry!
our house plan was based an honest to goodness "old world" inspired farmhouse. thus, there wasn't much of an entry to start with (if any). i modified the plans to include what we sadly lacked in our first home...STORAGE! and lots of it! now there are his and hers closets {below}...hooks for everyday coats to be tossed & a "secret" storage chest!
bruce, the mastermind behind our fabulous kitchen cabinets, worked off my drawings to create these wonderful coat closets. the bench that anchors them has a flip top to store the plethora of winter boots i own {a minnesota must}! i had a pillow ticking mattress made to outfit the top and provide a cushy spot for shoe removal. there are pegs above the bench for overflow coats and bags! it is truly wonderful to have a spot for everyday necessities!
here you will see {below} both the vintage locker baskets that are tucked at the bottom of the cupboards and a galvanized tray lined with river rocks to catch dirt, rain and snow from our shoes!
and here {below} i had a wide plank installed on the beadboard wainscot in this corner to provide a rack with everyone's name in old bin labels...
a little closer here...my fondness for old letters and clocks also showcased!
and speaking of gatherings of objects...the window between our coat closets boasts a rusty collection of well loved and used sand shovels...with a "welcoming" message spelled out in front!
and there you have it! not a long tour as it is a small room packed with a lot of functionality! and it serves it's purpose well! i thought i would end today with a close up incase you missed it above of the most ridiculously cute little sand shovel! {below}
so little it would take awhile to move any sand with it! it makes up in looks what it lacks in function! happy day everyone and thanks for taking a peek!
