Patina White

a "room" with a view...

greetings all! i am plugging away on merchandising my studio for patinaWHITE's upcoming novmeber event {click here for info} and thought i would give a little glimpse at the early stages of my "room with a view"! 

for those of you who are new to patinaWHITE ~ i host an annual "event" from a building adjacent to our home. it was built specifically with the notion of my shows in mind. not only is it spacious + bright with light...it is an easy commute for me! literally a hop, skip & jump away!

so onward we go for a little peek...

here a pair of well loved ice skates {below} become support brackets for birch branches! i love using ordinary items in new ways!

the dynamic duo {below} are ready to delight with jewelry baubles and holiday glitz! i believe i have mentioned my penchant for these vintage lovelies...you'll find them scattered between my home & studio! sorry, but these gals remain part of the permanent patinaWHITE collection! can't break up the happy family now can we?

i was inspired by a beautiful display i saw last year at the siver bella event in nebraska to create this mannequin bedeckled with an umbrella, lights & mini glitter stars! she will be the focal point of my jewelry counter! i can hardly wait to glam her up with layers of jewels! and i can't forget to mention a regular at my cottage and shows...the patina white garland created by my talented friend...miss cari kraft!

i stage the studio in "sections"...creating different themes within each area. {below} is a start to the neutral territory. architectual delights + my favorite "chippy white" wonders will make their appearance here.

a fresh shipment of necklaces arrived while i was snapping up photos to share...so, hot off the press is this wooden peace sign {below}. accented with rhinestones, beads + turq. nuggets **sigh**...it really can't get any better than this combination of textures!

tucked under the back staircase is this very cheerful showing of happy goods {below}.  you may recognize a pink buddy in the background from a previous post. you'll see an italian flower chandelier gets a touch of whimsy with antique glass ornaments dangling from curly wire! this nook is sure to bring a smile to your face...

and to end this little sneak peek of GREAT things to come...another twist on holiday traditions...a vignette {below} with more colors than the rainbow. even i, the forever "white is right" girl, am enamored with it's pop! and of course a sprinkling of sign letters doesn't hurt either!

friday's favorite {climb'n 2 the top}

well hello show & tell friends + visitors! it's 8pm & i wasn't going to rest until i had finished my "friday's favorite" to share with you! sometimes a project takes MUCH longer than one plans & this happens to be one of those! but, the end result thrills me...have a gander {below} at some repurposing at it's finest!

this weathered ladder just seemed destined to serve more years in organizational grandeur. quirky, crooked & very charming i envisioned it standing proudly in an office waiting to report to duty! 

warm hued cork + vintage sign letters team up to not only be good look'n but hopefully add some ease to your hectic schedule!

every day of the week is represented...you might need a second ladder to reach sunday though! i figure it should be a day of rest so hopefully your schedule isn't too busy that given day!

summer's second wind

alright! i know i must sound seasonally confused these days! one moment i am showing off holiday displays for my upcoming NOVEMBER studio event...the next i am embracing autumn's bounty! but boy, let me tell you...the last two days in the great north of minnesota has been more summer-like than our actual summer ever was!

taking a fast break from projects abound...i just had to share some cheerful shots of summer part {d'eux} with ya!

one section of my garden is boasting pumpkins & on the flipside my delphinium & hydrangea {below} are sprouting new blooms! can you stand it? kinda like me wearing shorts with my uggs. the best of all seasons! 

and just what type of hydrangea is it? why, endless summer, of course!

have a look at this glorious sun filled sky {below}! i am still seeing spots float around me from taking this shot...but oh so worth it!

more pretty blooms starting...can't even say what they are since i have not a clue! this plant was gifted to me...{thanks ma!}

here we have one very happy louie girl {below} bounding thru the grass! i wish for her (and maybe me a little!) that the weather was warm all year! so much easier on her stiff joints + what a priceless "smile" she has!

just to prove that i am indeed working! a view of my rustic wooden letters {below}! they will be available open stock at my studio event after saying all summer i was going to get them painted! better late than never...and hey! it still seems like summer! 

i have to tell you that i was tempted like a little kid to arrange the letters so the shadows spelled out a fun message. but- i remained on task and got the work done! shadow puppets must wait until another day! 

and speaking of getting the work done...i can hear the whip cracking & best run! i hope this finds you enjoying a cheerful visit from summer! happy day!

it's fall y'all!

as my happy little twig sign cries out {below}...it's FALL y'all! today officially marks the start of the autumn equinox and brings about mother nature's brilliantly colored surroundings! 

as long as we're talking about the "signs" of fall + brilliant colors...another one of natures bounty you will find exclusively this time of the year is the DEEElicious honey crisp apple! a trip to my local market yielded this bowl full of scrumptous treats {below}.

those of you who have had one of these minnesota born apples know what i am talking about...and those of you who haven't...run, don't walk, to your grocery store & do yourself a "flavor" favor and try one! once you do you will be hooked! 

my gathering of vintage rakes in various forms {below} look stylish throughout the summer in my garden but now are a reminder of the tasks to come! they are ready to spring into action! now the question is - am i? 

well i hope your start to the wonderful fall season is a great one! take some time to enjoy your surroundings...there is much to be seen & appreciated! and don't forget the honey crisp apples!

friday's favorite {alphabet soup}

hey everyone!  i haven't posted my "friday's favorite"  for a couple weeks so it's time i got back on board and did so right now! as i began set-up for my november STUDIO EVENT i unearthed some fabulous letters that have been waiting for the right moment to make their premier! it's no secret that i am a fan of all things numeric & letter driven! have a peek at the start of some displays featuring these little wonders {below}

that fella {above} is "with the band" and is cock-a-doodling his little heart out...band stand style! these cheerful alphabet blocks + old letters send out his message! and on another note...isn't the bike wheel "wreath" just fantastic? just a few of the goodies that await! you'll find them happily gathered in an old battery jar and fishbowl {shown below} for your digging enjoyment.

another saying is cast among the stars here {below}...the possibilities are endless!

wednesday's {W.I.P}

greetings! it would seem summer has gotten a second wind in our neck of the woods, so i seized the opportunity to put some touches on one of my {W.I.P} - otherwise know as "work in progress"! 

we all have projects waiting to be tackled and sometimes my list grows longer than my accomplishments! a visit from my always motivated mom (a million thanks as always!) made sure this wasn't the case in point on a little area next to my studio!

i'd like to send a BIG thank you to jo - a fabulous customer who was kind enough to give me the GIANT old gate! have you ever laid your eyes on such a marvel!? i have been collecting gates for sometime now and this is the granpappy of them all! just take a peek {below} for yourself!

i'd like to think the S on the seat {below} was put there to celebrate our surname but i suspect it has more to do with the maker of the bike...schwinn! regardless, the color works just brilliant in my little gathering!

here a catawampus plant stand {below} has the beginings of a harvest geared display. it's a WIP as i said so there are more touches to be made! but it is on the right track!

more seasonal accents are found in the unusual peanut & jarradale pumpkins! i'm always on the look-out for the "beyond ordinary"! plus these uniquely hued squash provide some color to the landscape!

this old ironwork {below} has been hanging around for a few years now. at one time i offered it for sale & when it didn't find the right "new" home it came back to mine! and i do think i have finally found it's resting spot for the time being here in my shade garden!

so there you have one of my {W.I.P}! a day spent in the dirt + unearthing existing treasures...highlighted this fine summer-like wednesday! maybe i will make this an ongoing wednesday theme and start checking more off the "list"! thanks for stopping today and make it a great day!

i dream in color

greetings all! though i am all about neutral palettes and a big fan of the "non-color" white, {hence my business namesake - patinaWHITE}, i do break outside my box and bring in a splash of color for my events. as i prepare for my upcoming holiday event {more info click HERE}....i couldn't help but sharing my colorful dreams of some fun offerings you will find!

a new flock of junkyard art has made it's way into my "coop"! this proud peacock below is quite showy & will be even more colorful when i wrap his tail in primary tone vintage light strings. these pieces are created from recycled materials & are full of character! there are too many critters to name...hopefully you can swing by to see the whole menagerie

do you remember the days of lockers clanging away? boy, i do! and also remember on more than one occasion forgetting my combination. i can't think of anything more unnerving to a freshman as not being able to get into your locker. and i don't mean being put there by a sassy senior! these cheerful units {below} almost look like they are part of a circus! come see them at my "big tent" event!

a pile of found letters will be spelling out some greetings of the season...i washed away the first layer of grime...they are waiting for yet another bath!

shown {below} are some wood slats that are interesting to say the least! they will provide a happy punch of color to the show!

these snippets of license plates are waiting to be turned into both jewelry + cheerful signs! very little goes to waste around here!

a corner of my world {make room}

why hello all! happy wednesday! oops! i mean thursday! my mind is telling me it's only wednesday due to the extended holiday weekend so we are going to pretend it is so and take the last peek at a "corner of my world"!

i wish it could continue as i have had such a great response to it but i'm afraid i have run out of interesting corners to share! that is unless you consider the closets and cupboards exciting! as projects are completed in our home...laundry room, office, downstairs bath...i will share those {W.I.P.} (better know in our home as "work in progress") with ya all!

in the meantime...please join me for the last official wednesday "tour" featuring my basement "make" room. i have shown this space in a previous post when it was near completion but thought i would highlight it again for those of you new to patinaWHITE and my show & tell. 

my "make" room {below} is where i like to tinker away on creative ventures...it is off our basement gathering room and is painted in ball jar inspired blue-green. a custom work table designed by me then brought to life by my talented friend terry is the hub of the room providing a sound spot for everything from hammering away on jewelry to stamping signs for patinaWHITE.

it has always been a dream to have a spot for everything and have everything in it's place. i am still and will forever be working on grouping items + sorting a plethora of gathered goodies from across the years! 

the metal boxes {below} are part of the ongoing process...

i'm a sucker for old sign maker kits & stopped counting how many i have accumulated...but my favorite to this day is the set shown {below}. a treasured gift from my dear friend, kami. she picked a winner here! i use it in nearly all my stamping projects!

give 'em the boot...in this case a perfect spot {below} for catching scissors + writing utensils! i collaged the thrift store metal tray in the background with some inspiring words...

i just loved the color plus idea of this adjustable paper mannequin {below} she currently serves no purpose other than sitting pretty.

 

this form {below} unlike miss cutie above is actually put to hard work. she is draped with jewels and chains waiting for the right project to come along. these "girls" are part of a large family of dress forms that i employ for various tasks!

the cupboard {below} couldn't have been one inch taller and fit into this space! it was quite the challenge to maneuver downstairs! one challenge that i observed rather than participate. even i know when to stay out of the way of men at work! especially ones hauling a crazy heavy old piece of "junk" for your's truly!

and just what is housed in those stacks of weathered cigar boxes? well, just have a little looksee below...

a garden of pins above and sea of sparkle below...i could go on & on...but we'll explore more another day!

the curtains on my closet {the interior being another W.I.P} were created from white burlap i washed to get a rumpled look! yes, you CAN wash burlap...however...be ready to do some serious cleaning of your dryer's lint trap! a quick makeshift "door" that is simply wonderful!

this time tested butcher wrap + stand has the most fabulous faded green striped paper. i admire it more than i use it but am working on getting there...sometimes it is hard for me to use vintage resources but it is nice to share!

and to end the {make room} journey is a piece of folk artsy whimsy. i picked this piece up years back and haven't really had a good spot to showcase. until my need for a doorstop called to me! so there you go...a door stopping display!

greetings! i just wanted to send out a BIG thank you to all you wonderful folks who made this past holiday weekend at shady hollow such a great time! 

 

the weather was darn near as perfect as you could ask for...summer decided to make it's appearance at the very end and we were happy to have it!

the hollow was packed with a variety of vendors + enthusiastic shoppers!  they were setting up tables where i have never seen people show before! and much to the dismay of our minnesota state troopers...the highway ditches were lined with overflow parked cars! wow! what a crowd!

after three whirlwind days of craziness i am ready to take a little time for creative renewal to prepare for the upcoming big event at my home studio. please click {HERE} for more info on that...

truly...i am so thankful for each and every one of my fabulous customers! i can't say it enough...your excitement & encouraging words are the driving force behind patinaWHITE...and for that  - THANK YOU!

the last weekend at shady hollow...it's spooky!

greeting all! i know! can you believe this is the last official weekend of summer? it's almost "spooky" how fast the time goes zipping by! and with labor day weekend comes the grand finale at shady hollow where you will find patinaWHITE's summer home! we will be there this SATURDAY, SUNDAY & MONDAY for your shopping enjoyment!  

another spooky thing or two will be the harvest-y themed wares you will see floating around the cottage this weekend! and speaking of such...he's a peek at some goodies sure to get you in the spirit of the season!

the fans shown {below} are comprised of skeletons standing side by side...can you spot them? they look great "hanging out" in many settings! above a table...in an entry...on a covered porch! 

"hallo" themed art makes these plaques great home accents! i am a fan of their artsy script backgrounds and moody colors!

we can't have just "moody" decor so that's why you'll find mr. "put on a happy face" hanging out {below} in this display. made of paper pulp - he is folk art at it's finest!

all my ducks...i mean pumpkins...are in a row {below} sending out a greeting of the season! and sassy little glitter ornaments are great hanging just about anywhere!

and on the subject of pumpkins...i will have a fabulous array of freshly harvested pumpkins in unique colors for your carving, eating and decorating pleasures! 

though not terrible spooky...this gerbera daisy was so cheerful in it's bright color it warranted being showcased!

and last but not least is a grand grouping of charms i put together for those "witchy" women out there! the collage is from my archives & i layered them with a hand stamped star + sparklin' gem for a bit of sparkle! no trick here...just a pretty treat!

 

so there you have it! some spooky goods sure to bring some harvest hued accents to your self...soul...& surroundings! be sure to stop by this last weekend at shady (maybe i should say "sleepy") hollow! you never know what you might "scare" up!
