do you remember?

...a time before internet, cell phones & high tech game consoles? well i happened on a box that provided a refreshing blast from the past & just had to share some of my favorite childhood treasures with you today! 

CABBAGE PATCH KIDS caused probably one of the first newsworthy mentions of crowd storming commotion! i treasured my adopted "kid" for years...heck...i still think she's pretty great!

and who wouldn't love a doll with the name "brenda dorcas" as shown in her birth certificate?! i also adopted her a pet "koosa"...a sorta cat doll named sparkey. now that's marketing brilliance! 

back in the day when i knew exactly how to work my camera - you'd simply point & click. LE CLIC that is! way before memory sticks we used disc film to capture our moments! mine was, of course, pink...a color i never tire of!

i believe my collecting days were well in place as a child as i had many collections.  STICKERS topped the list at that time with scratch & sniff {below} providing some of my favorites...

 

and to end my trip down memory lane...these were popular as i approached being a teenager. oh the coolness of having a SWATCH WATCH! i was lucky enough to not only have one but eventually two {shown below}. a quick search on google informed me that my small ladies version called "blue cassata"  was part of the fall/winter collection circa 1987. i didn't see the other one to date it but is was a larger guy's variety that i saved my allowance for to purchase a few years after the first one.

 

now if you see a gal running around in jelly shoes...hair in a big white scrunchie..swatch watch on her wrist and toting a le clic...it isn't molly ringwald from pretty in pink or an episode of "what not to wear" - it's just me reliving my youth! sure am glad i saved everything...and still do to this day! oh what fun stories it allows me to share!

hello show & tell friends...hope this finds you enjoying time well spent with family & friends remembering all that we have to be oh so very thankful for!

 

here's my "turtle" pumkin pie i just finished...it's still minus it's final topping but looks YUMMY nonetheless! and as the picture indicates i plan on doing some serious gobbling!

well, i am off to enjoy a day with my wonderful in-laws! again, wishing you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
 

all that glitters...

...is not gold. GREETINGS...thought i would start today with a "revised" shakespeare quote due to the fact that nearly every surface of my home, car & person is covered in a form a glitter these days! my sparkle infatuation continues with a love off all things glitter. i dug out some of my favorites...vintage vessels shown {below} with precious german glass glitter...

vintage glass glitters are getting extremely hard to find. but there are some beautiful modern varieties availble today. the aqua version is from our friend, martha's line. and a search online will yield you a number of sources for this precious granule. i will also share a little secret...unable to throw away a gathering of sadly broken vintage mercury glass ornaments...i put them in a thick plastic bag and gave it a good once over with my ceramic rolling pin.  VOILA! your very own glass glitter! so get out them pins and do some creative recycling!

this star {below} is a glass glitter variety that started out a gleaming silver and since "tarnished" to it's current bronze...a lovely trait of true glass glitter!

i have a plethora of glitters in many forms.  glitter glue...glitter spray...glitter powder...oh my! the spray is a fabulous way to get a quick, subtle sparkle as seen in my handstamped ribbon {below}. it's there..squint hard!

i created this little cutie of a charm {below} with the vintage bronze powder as seen {2 below}. i think the girls who join me at our annual "wild wimen" gathering at my home for the holidays will be tickled to see them tied to their glasses as a "marker". now...i better start on them now if i am to dream of finishing intime!

 

not technically a glitter...this box of vintage mica was too darn fun not to share! i love both the outside and inside contents of this "flakey" little number!

boy...how many times can one say "glitter" in a single post! + you'll likely see more mention of this personal fave! especially since the holidays create an impressive spectacle of this grainy treasure! well...i am off! time to run out the door with the hubby to work on winterizing projects. oh! did i mention my door? well...{1} last picture shows a wood letter i painted, then...what else!...glittered to greet everyone with some holiday cheer. ok! that's it. for today anyway!

friends...finds & fun

hey everyone!  this week has found me taking some time to work on items on my list from my last post! catch-up first and foremost! and with that i am "catching-up" with friends! 

a little more than an hour drive each for my gal pal kami & myself brought us together for a few fun packed hours of hunting & gathering! now...on the drive down i told myself over and over "thou shalt not purchase any rhinestone jewelry". well, let me tell you that "commandment" was broken @ the first display case of sparklin' jewels. i figured there could be worse additions and came home with....

so on we marched to the thrift store. there's hardly a quiet moment in a shoppe once i enter. amongst the laughin' and chatter - us girls can make even the most hardened man smile. and this was just such an occasion as i pondered over which silver charms i needed more than others. a tough decision but these were the winners {below}.

when we were leaving he shouted out "come back again" to which i chuckled & said "you don't really mean that"...knowing i can drive most sane person to the edge with my deliberations!

oh, how can i forget to mention these tidy little starched lovelies i unearthed? i do believe they will be quite fabulous tied to gifts this holiday season! now i just have to figure out who the "nice" boys and girls are that will get them!

not many people would be excited to find old solo cups. now me...boy that's pretty darn exciting and definitely worth mentioning! i will tuck them away for my holiday event 2010. i am already planning goodies and making mental displays of the studio! 

thus ended a happy day spent with a dear friend! i can't think of anything i would rather do with a little free time! and today is going to be spent in the company of another wonderful friend - tamara, fighting off boy crazy teenagers for a good seat at the premier of new moon*. 

somethings you never grow out off and yes, i am a loyal team edward member! so - make room all you "spring chicks" for some "seasoned hens"! we are off to grab a jumbo bag of popcorn + milkduds and thru dreamy eyes watch the much anticipated show of the year! and remember...time spent with friends is never wasted.  throw in a vintage pair of rhinestone earrings + a hunky movie star & you'll be set!

so now what?

a GREAT BIG happy hello to everyone! the second weekend of patinaWHITE's holiday event was wonderful! carfuls of giddy girls (some boys!) trekked their way out to my studio which made for another fun filled weekend of shopping + lots of laughter! i hope i don't sound like a broken record...but i really can't thank everyone enough! your excitement & comments fuel my fire! and another thank you "shout out" to my friends & family that stood by me thru the craziness and made it all possible!

so! now just what does this girl plan on doing until the reopening of my summer cottage at shady hollow? well...let me share a little of my agenda with y'all!

#1. CATCH-UP. customer orders and a whole heck of a lot of laundry are a couple of things i need to spend some time on! i giggled when i saw my vintage perpetual calendar and the last date on it. seems like i may be a couple days behind or so!

 

#2. BAKING. i love sweets. and the upcoming holidays are a great excuse / reason to put on my "martha" face and do spend some time in the kitchen! with thanksgiving around the corner i am feeling like the recipe below just can't go wrong...cheesecake and pumpkin pie...together...really? i'm on it! thank you better homes & gardens!

#3. OUR home for the holidays. there was such a positive response to this summer's past tour of our home via blogland that i will be showing it yet again ~ this time cloaked in it's winter attire! i have a headstart on the outdoor decorating but can't wait to deck the halls & trim those trees!

#4. FAMILY. first i'd like to say this list is in no particular order as family comes after baking! but i am sure my wonderful kinfolk know by now that i love them just as much as food! :) so, on that note i plan on visiting my big sis nikki and my big brother bruce shown {below} with a happy litle beth. 

sorry big sis, michelle....you were "mia" on this occasion but i hope to see you just the same! these visits will take me across the midwest and eventually to arizona! i have never been there but am thrilled at the prospect of seeing my brother after way too many years! and of course i wouldn't dream of not seeing my beloved mom, dad & stepmom along the way!

#5. REST. i think my louie girl {below} has the right idea! i intend on following her lead and taking a few naps here and there. 

naps are good! plus they are a wonderful way to fuel the creative sparks that will be flying as i work on new projects and develop new wares to showcase spring 2010! you will see peeks of these along the way too! after all! that is why i started my "show & tell" blog in the first place! 

well...there you have it! a little glimpse into the future happenings & good things to come! as always...i appreciate you taking the time to follow my ramblings!

greetings everyone!  the studio is freshly restocked for {3} more days of event filled fun! many unique & festive wares await! here are the hours....

studio event! a big THANK U + part {deux}

all i can say is WOW! what a glorious start to {2} weekends filled with fun! the first weekend of my studio event started at 5pm this past friday eve & was a wild ride until closing on sunday! first off...to all the fabulous folks who journeyed out...i'll let the little girl in my created collage card do the talking...

 

i can't say it enough! i wouldn't be where i am today without the excitement of my loyal customers + the support of my family and friends...both those near & those far (i tell ya...i have met the nicest people thru this blog)!

today you'll find me pulling some tricks out of my hat for this coming weekend...part {deux} as the french say! there is never a shortage of fun goodies to be seen! i am busy restocking and recreating to make the second weekend show as special & fun as the first! oh, and yes! more treats and cider for all! unless my hubby gets to those chocolate chip cookies first! 

i played around with some "charming" hearts...i love these words together...

 

i unearthed a few more of a show favorite..shadow box charm bracelets. at only $20 they are a super gift! and they double as a pendant if you unclip from the bracelet & add to a neck chain!

 

on a side note...this weather we are having is for the birds...literally! and by that i mean BEAUTY-FULL! i tried to snap a picture of those darn fast chickadees. do you see it? maybe santa will bring me a camera with a better zoom! 

in addition to the birds coming out...so is more good "junk" that is waiting to be arranged in the studio! see...fresh wares await! i am lovin' the wooden trug. with it's quirky stick handle and silly little feet the reason it's still here is i was unsure if i wanted to sell it! as of posting time i am still on the fence!

 

time for me to get back to work! now that i am caught up on my sleep and there is a grand day ahead of me i have no excuses not to get things done! and again...."thanks a bunch"! you all are appreciated more than words or "happy" little girls can express!

encouraging words...

why hello! with only {2} days left until the fun begins @ my holiday event there are quite a few notes around me and a mental to do list beyond my brain's capacity! i was running around thinking that i am behind on my studio snapshots which was causing frustration when a necklace haning in my kitchen (of all places) caught my eye...

reading it made me stop...take a breath & remember how truly special each day is no matter how few or many tasks are to be completed! and i wanted to share it today as you all in my thoughts! they other little diddy shown is just because it seemed like another good "encouraging" word i am chanting to myself!

short and sweet...that is today's post. i am off to the races...i am thinking of you and will be taking pictures later today...which means with only a couple days left til showtime i hope to post them real soon!

daylight saving??

i know i made mention of a sneak peek into the studio and even with daylight saving there still doesn't seem to be enough time in the day! we awoke early this morning & made a trip to gather evergreen boughs for some seasonal accents in and around the studio + house. well that led to one thing...then to another... and i just didn't get any pictures i felt worthy of sharing by posting time! that is except the window box on our house...isn't it pretty? a great benefit to living in the woods and near nature's wonderful bounty!

 

did i succeed at distracting you? bait & switch...i know! there's a lot of "fluffing" to be done & i will do my absolute best to share some worthy snapshots soon! so do check back again! i appreciate your interest and sorry to leave you hanging...but good things come to those who wait...right?
