hey all! a recent find, a trip to the local fleet supply + many fond memories are the inspiration behind today's post! while out on "goodie" patrol for my shoppe @ shady hollow i stumbled on one of those OMG moments. something so grand it stopped me dead in my tracks & sent me into a dazed state. rusty metal + weathered zinc + industrial charm = the mirror of all mirrors. and before i lose you with my excited chatter....i am going to just show ya! check it out {below}.
now that mannequin standing proudly next to it represents the size of an honest to goodness lady figure. so you get the scale now. and the embossed detail? well just have a looksie here {below} a little closer.
which leads me into the "what the heck was it?" song & dance. a rooster mascot must mean a farm implement. maybe something to do with the likes of these little fellows i spotted at the farm supply store {below}.
any ideas what these fuzzy wonders have to do with my unique mirror? well thank heavens for the internet & a little legwork on-line. a google search revealed a seller with some brochures on my hefty find. so i bought the paperwork just to document what exactly i found. the brochure's a piece of history on it's own!
turns out my MAKOMB mirror started life as a MAKOMB brooder! in the day it kept those little chicks warm. now it serves a different kind of "hot chick"!
growing up on a farm i am very familiar with the process of hatching & raising chickens. many a hour were spent by my sister & i turning eggs in the incubator. and the joy of watching them hatch...now that's something! the warm fuzzy memories also bring along the less touching times of running from our incredibly ornery rooster, leonard. just ask my mom about him! oh the stories i could share...that was one mean bird!
