let the season begin!

hello everyone! i know i have been a bit scarce these days. my time has been spent heavily @ my summer home. that "home being"...

where we kicked off the season with a big...

...day fun-filled weekend. it's always so great to see the familiar faces mingled in with those new ones! and hear the stories of what our winters were like. {here in minnesota i don't believe it ever left!} but despite the chill in the air it was like being back together with one big happy...

a hole in my heart...

happy monday everyone! w/ less than a week before my "shady" summer season starts @ my lil white cottage...i have been running @ full tilt. but it would seem that i am not the only one on the "ranch" doing so. a walk thru the lawn the other day & i spied my nemesis...mr. gopher...busy @ work making mounds of earth scattered around the grass. a quick investigation sent me running for the house...not for my rifle {see last post}...but for my camera. and why you ask? well...have a peek @ the artwork he laid forth...

ok. how can that not make you smile? i decided to make peace with him for the time being and leave him alone. hubby on the other hand. all i can say is think caddy shack...bill murray...'nuff said!

well leave it to some critter to be the inspiration behind a post! got me thinking about the "hole in my heart". i know...sounds pretty dramatic but really was just a good title. but i do have other hearts with holes. you might remember the sparkly bracelet giveaway i did back in january. i will have these lil numbers {below} waiting for you this weekend.

a past necklace design i did came to mind as well. and since i sold the original & wanted to have something "fresh" to wet your whistle with...i just emerged from my MAKE room with this lovely in tow. i am pretty tickled with how she turned out! see for yourself {below}.

moving onto last night's creation. after a day spent @ my cottage setting the stage...i had a burst of creative energy. and though there is no hole in this heart {below}...the reclaimed tin accent was in somewhat of a "hole" so i thought i would throw it out there today for you to see.  don't ya "LOVE" it??

now like my gopher friend...i must be movin' along. he doesn't seem to be @ a lack of energy so i will continue on w/ him as my motivation. just so he doesn't leave too many works of "art" in our lawn.

what i wore...here comes trouble

hey everyone! look out...a whole lot of "trouble" is in our neighborhood. that's right folks...i have been taking up some new activities to add to my growing list of "i wanna learn to...". most recent...shoot a gun. this right on the heels of taking boxing classes. next up...welding. my boxing instructor said i was more of a man than he was. still trying to figure out if that was a compliment!

all my "manness" aside...i can still play up the girlie side of "trouble" w/ what i wore! have a peek @ the visual with the narration continued below...

i may not be a master marksman just yet....but i must say i am pretty fond of firing off rounds @ innocent 7-up cans. you'll see {above} i am packing a .22 rifle. but my favorite is actually using a pistol. villains beware. 

the whole ensemble was inspired by a sassy tee by COWGIRL JUSTICE. i picked it up @ a fabulous little shoppe in the neighboring village of perham. if you're in our neck of the woods...look for JEZEBEL. and tell marlene i sent ya. she's a hoot. you'll love her + her unique wares! 

blue jeans by true religion. i'm lovin' the loose fit of these babies. and i adore the horseshoe pockets w/ super thick thread throughout. if you're going to be getting into trouble...you might as well be comfortable doing so.

and speaking of comfort. my boots have been used & abused. years ago...i literally bought them "broken in" {pre-owned...as were the jeans!} off ebay. originally from sundance catalog...they still sell 'em today. the inlays are timeless. as are the boots in general. they will be with me for many adventures.

pistols & pearls. need i say more? the pistol was just a prop...not dangling from my neck...yet. i think it would be a one of a kind pendant. it may get me stopped by airport security though. good thing i seldom take to the air for travel. but back to the necklace. it's a beauty. want a closer look??  well i have a few to share @ shady hollow's kick off to the season. when's that you ask? well we are counting down to flea market fun beginning may 28th. more info...click {HERE}.

are you fired up? well i sure am...and i'm not just referring to the rifle! there is sure to be something you are looking for. everything except trouble that is! i will leave the rifle @ home. but the pistol...you just never know!

...who's there? well this isn't leading into a joke. but it might bring a smile to your face. i made up a snarky sign with a "split personality" we'll say. where you choose to greet...or bid adieu...the party @ your doorstep.

door to door salesman?? toilet paper yielding trickster looking for trouble?? a flip of the sign and i'd have to give 'em a big...

the sign {above}...a bit silly & sassy but sure to make those who see it smile either way. the recycled metal letters...a new addition to patinaWHITE. sure to turn up in other projects. of which happens to be...the giant skeleton key {shown below}...i think it's purpose is loud & clear! gotta love a good looking accent chock-full of function. 

so there ya go. a sign for all those who may be knock-knocking @ your door. and a spot for the keys of those who enter! thanks for popping by my show & tell. of course you are always "welcome" to come back!

making tracks...

hello and happy friday! the weekend is nearly here! the weather outlook for our neck of the woods if fantastic! so w/ that happy thought ahead of me i can show what we awoke to just a few short days behind me. yes...april showers brings may snow. huh? snow? well thankfully it didn't last. but it did officially make it the 8th month straight of snow in minnesota. and that is "for the birds" as they say. or "see" if you were walking on our front porch!

well the birds are not the only one making tracks. i have been busy collecting and creating lots of fabulous...

...because in {3} short weeks...

i will be reopening what once was a slumbering little cottage...

...so that you can make your own tracks my way! thank you for your continued excitement...i can hardly contain mine! i look forward to seeing familiar faces & all you new ones! until then...

oh for peat's sake!

hey everyone! a happy may day to you all! don't you just love spring? and all the wonderful garden goodies that come out @ the stores? i have always been fascinated with lil peat pots. so i picked me up a bunch of them to use for everything but their original purpose! this variety is lightweight and more grassy like. {the traditional resembling papier-machie}. so i will start the reinvention showing ya my super sweet may day baskets {below}!

i made them w/ peat pots lined with a coffee filter. then added a homemade curly wire handle...not forgetting to fill them w/ some tasty treats! then i finished them off with some snippets from my vast vintage {scrap} book collection.

tradition calls for them to be left on someone's doorstep...with the basket giver running off before the recipient can catch them. if caught they are to exchange a kiss. well...i don't mind a little smooch from my recipient {below}...but is seems he is nowhere in sight to even give chase! not that he would likely do so anyway!

about a week or so ago i seeded some of them with wheat grass. not thinking ahead about the roots soon popping thru...i placed them in ironstone mugs and scattered them in our bathroom...{by our tub}

final project to show ya {which was actually the 1st one i did} is where i added some flower suckers ...shred...vintage paper "bands" and game tiles to create unique easter treats {below} for my nieces + nephew. not your traditional pot of fleurs but sure cute nonetheless!

now for the love of peat...run out and grab yourself some of these cheapy containers to get crafting! and be sure to catch that may day basket yielding bandit @ your doorstep. in-case you needed an excuse to give someone a big ol' kiss!
