put the petal to the metal

hey there everyone! i am sure this finds many of you preparing for a long holiday weekend of fun! well...the same is true for me! because we are open {3} days starting saturday JULY 2nd thru monday JULY 4th for your shopping enjoyment @ shady hollow market!

i have really been putting the "petal" to the metal these days. collecting and creating some wonderful whimsies i'd like to introduce you to. 

ok...have to start with my favorite first. a green patina heart w/ a sweet rose embedded within it's frame. and dangling from a precious length of my vintage...naturally aged...glass chain. say hello to fleur-n-love {below}.

below is a combo i put together using one of the many collage baubles + charms available @ my cottage. the rose & gemstone really accent this cutie without taking away from focal point. meet my words 2 live by cluster.

hot off the hands of the UPS man {crafty fella right?!}....this glinty number {below} w/ it's metal rose pendant was a perfect mix of metal petals & rhinestones. and it's extra long length is not only perfect for layering but can be lariated around your neck for a choker like effect! wanna see? well make tracks to shady hollow and i will be happy to show ya! that along with the other fantastic fashion pieces that arrived!

the last one and certainly not least...is a romantic yet rustic combination i fabricated. the rusty character of the cross is softened by the sculptural rose centerpiece + vintage pearl chain. this will be a hard one to part with {you've heard that before}! a warm welcome to romantic relic {below}.

now i hope you will put your pedal to the metal! and plan a visit to shady hollow this weekend. remember...this is a {3} day event! and an excellent opportunity with the extended hours to pop by! we will be waiting! just like the highlighted items {above} plus more than you can imagine!

@ night...

as the hour approaches 11pm...and i just got in the house from time well spent outside...i realized a few things.

t h a t . . .

#1. more than stars can sparkle in the dark of night.

#2. there is still alot of color around us...even if you can't "see" it.

#3. fireflies make you feel like a kid. and are pretty darn hard to capture in a photo!

i also realized a couple other things. that it's way past my bedtime. and...that the multiple mosquito bites and likely case of raging poison ivy were worth it. there are some wonderful things to be "seen" @ night.

{1} girl's trash...

hello hello! we all know how the saying goes. one man's trash is another man's treasure. well that saying couldn't hold more true in my world. except for the man part. because here it's GIRL all way! read on for a little trash talk...

there is nothing that sets my heart a racin' more than the words "clean up week". because it means i get to "clean up" @ the many junk piles that wait. here's a little peek @ part of a metal heap {below}.

i indulged in a heap'n help'n of rusty gold. with these "trashy" finds {below} thrilling me to no end. i had a vision...the "attendants" @ the yard...they had a chuckle...cause they couldn't believe someone would really be grabbing trash can lids...oh...i mean sculptural metal discs!

and speaking of the hard working attendants - when i spied a fantastic lengthy piece of galvanized metal...i knew i wasn't going to be leaving without it. which called from some assistance from chuck {below}. not only was this fella good enough to dig out the fragment for some junk crazed lady...but he hauled it to a safe spot til i was ready to pick it up @ a later date. and did you notice his tat? WHITE?!? this guy is patinaWHITE all the way! love it!

plus talk about a crew a guys with a heart. they were so thoughtful of nature that they sectioned off the normally busy area {below} from potential hazards being tossed in on the baby birds. sweet.

the protected area housed something that caught my eye. but i followed the rules and didn't disturb. even junk has it limits! but this is what i passed up...a section of galvanized culvert {below} that would have made a neat side table. oh well...maybe next year!

moving on to the massive wood collection...i did spy a nondescript spool {below}. thinking it would be a great jewelry display/spinner in another life i hauled it away. again...much to the amusement of onlookers @ the yard. it's hard to explain my motives....so i just smile and scoot along...

i could have "played" here all day. there were even racquets ready and waiting!  but i kept searching for the next treasure!

heck...it looks like i was late to the party {below}! i must have already missed the chips and margaritas! i guess the early bird really does get the worm. and i don't mean the one in the bottle of tequila!

i didn't need any excuse to party other than the fact that i really "raked" in the junk on this occasion. as you can see...i've got a lot of junk in my trunk!

so i suppose rather than talk about all the great ideas i should just get to work and then SHOW & TELL ya all about it! so off to the stash of trash i go...

a day for dads

dad...father...papa...daddy...pops...no matter what you call your dad, be sure to show him how special he is this father’s day. my dad {below} is a wonderful guy. i adore him more than words can say. 

i also think my dad-in-law is a pretty neat fella. & given this opportunity - i must share an all time favorite photo of him w/ his mom pulling his britches up {below}

monkey see...monkey do! {salvage chandi}

hey everyone! here we are @ the end of the week! i have been busy preparing for yet another weekend @ the shady hollow! rounding up some fun wares to keep it fresh & fun! and hopefully reeling you in if you are in my neighborhood! 

monkey see monkey do was a segment i created for my blog to showcase items i have come across and do my spin off the original.

the creation i am about to show ya was plucked from the pages of COUNTRY HOME magazine. *sigh*. do i miss that periodical. that and the quirky reinventions of the original junkmasters..ki nassauer + sue whitney. it's hard to believe...this work of whimsy was highlighted in the june 2003 issue. really...2003? a world prior to smart phones & many other marvels that have come about in the last 8 years. but something remains as inspiring as ever to me. this lovely {below} happens to be one of them.

ok...i'll admit...i am a bit of a "salvage snob". finding it hard to part with the pieces of time that are becoming increasing harder and harder to scrape up. but i managed to pull a few elements out of my dwindling stash...a mix-up of {3} different corbels and a fantastic green table leg became the foundation for my salvage chandi {below}.

rather than use ball jars as the candle holders...i opted for small insulators that i wrapped with wire and jute for mine {below}. they look equally as grand w/ a few floral sprigs + ivy vines as they do with the current resident tealights.  

for the photo op i hung mine from a weathered pulley. it doesn't show in the shot above so i thought i would toss out a snapshot of the lonely pulley {below}. it adds an extra pop of texture with the wood and metal accents.

sounds like i am becoming pretty attached to something that should be for sale. guess time + a visit to the flea will reveal if and when i am ready to part with her!

well...that will sum up this monkey's do for the day. as always i thank you for stoppin' by. and look forward to more show & tell on some of the other projects in the works. never seems to be a lack of something to ramble on about. just more a matter of time these days! time...hmmm...makes me think of clocks...there i go again! back to the drawing board!

livin' large

hello and happy monday show & tell friends! it dawned on me that i haven't shown ya all a picture of my shiny new toy. that "toy" being the wicked cool harley my hubby built from the ground up for me.

so this past saturday found me bowing out from a large group ride to complete some projects for patina white. after the projects were done & w/ the sunshine beating down...i flung on my gear & headed out on the highway...solo! i must say...there is something quite liberating about being 1 with the road.

i returned home feeling refreshed + renewed. which led me into more preparations for the shady sunday nearly upon me. so i unpacked some new baubles...that happened to be "larger than life"! have a peek @ 'em {below}

i'd like to extend a big thank you to my wildly talented hubby. his work empowered me to not only LIVE LARGE...but reminded me to stop and smell the roses. or in this case fishy water. still part of nature though! i will sign off today with a show of both our bikes. so...here we have...

birds of a feather...

hey everyone! the inspiration behind this post was a tiny feathered visitor. every year our home becomes the nesting spot for @ least one little family of finches. and this summer was no exception with them taking up residence in my hanging porch ferns. a moment spent watering the other day and this is what i found...

not letting the finches have all the fun...i decided to jump on the recent trend wagon involving feather extensions in one's hair. some of you may know about it...& for the rest of you...i think it best to just show ya! because i am certain you have the same questionable look on your face that hubby had when i explained what i was having done. so here i am...a bonafide "bird brain" {below}!

pretty amazing that these feathers can endure curling irons...blow-dryers + the daily abuse my hair is subjected to. i am pretty sure if you asked the rooster that they were plucked from he would say he was equally as tough on them. and also that he would like them back. poor guy! but moving back to the original inspiration...the...

i was sifting thru our burn pile when i spied a mass of mangled wire. i remembered these were the remenants of our giant evergreen wreath from the holidays. sort of reminded me of the tangles i got in my hair when i was young. with which...along came the memory of a less than gentle sister yanking @ my tresses mumbling something about a rat's nest. well...this mess {below} 

was reborn as another more desirable nest w/ a little crumpling. also taking cue from my lofty neighbors...i plucked a few sprigs of greens from our flower garden. and popped some faux eggs inside. here's what i ended up with {below}.

us birds of a feather must stick together! now i must fly the "coop"! there are projects to be done + baubles to be restocked for another weekend @ the shady hollow. all the while i must check my back for a band of angry fowl seeking revenge on us feather takers...um...admirers!

junk in bloom

greetings show & tell friends! have you ever noticed that you can take a rusty + crusty piece of "junk" & mingle in a little flower power w/ fabulous results? well around my gardens i did just that and thought i would show ya today! 

not nearly @ it's weight capacity...this old scale {below} turned podium provides a bit of texture to the showy pink petunias.

you best have your current tetanus shot {i sure as heck do} if you are going to be poking around my flower box. or should i say you could be the one who is poked? a gathering of rusty pitchfork tines {below} plus an iron relic add a little visual interest to the petal display hanging on our homefront.

i will be sharing a little combo w/ the folks @ shady hollow this weekend. i love the pairing of the wire basket w/ an old clay pot nestled in {below}...ready for your instant gratification already planted + accented w/ an appropriate FLEURS tag!

you can be the queen of bloomin' everything if you pick up one of these lovelies that i just snapped up from the UPS man...i can hardly stand it when a shipment of baubles arrives...dropping everything in it's tracks to snoop. so glad i did because i know you are gonna love these {below}.

the summer is in full swing and you will be in "hog heaven" @ some of the goodies i have created this week to fill in the "holes" generated last weekend @ the flea. me? i am in "hog heaven" on the homefront w/ my concrete hog feeder w/ abundant purple accents. oink oink...

and since we are on the topic of animals...there is never a shortage of "flower frogs" @ patinaWHITE. their beauty and function are like no other this time of the year. i'm lovin' the new wire cage version {aqua of course!} shown here {below} w/ a simple spattering of branches. 

so dig out some treasures...head to your local greenhouse and whip up some of your very own junk in bloom. or...stop by shady hollow this sunday and see me. i am always happy to fix ya up! thanks for peeking today!
