greetings! time (2) shake things up today! or @ least show you some ways of reinventing a kitchen workhorse...the often overlooked salt + pepper shaker.
the idea all started when the talented kat from found & flora in nebraska {check her facebook page HERE} turned some ordinary items into LOVELY tokens for valentines. and her S&P creation inspired me to do my own. here's a partial peek @ some of my elements {below}.
i began with a REALLY great pair of S+P made of heavy, old cut crystal.. i scooped them up from our thrift for .99! now time for phase two. fabricated a wire "card" holder in the shape of a heart {seen above}.
you can also see my finished banner i created {above}. i will do a blog especially with the art for those of you wanting to have a template to create your own blank "slates". there's a wealth of possibilty w/ these cuties. i'm already working on another project enlisting them. think MAY day baskets...
anywho...before i get too distracted from the topic @ hand...i wanted to add some color to my version. so enter in a pile of red hots {below}
not only do they tie into the LOVE theme. but their tiny size fits perfectly into the cavity of the shakers. and you can imagine i had NO problem finding a "spot" for the extras. tasty.
then i popped the wire holder thru a hole in the shaker top. added my decorated banner. and tied the "PERFECT PAIR" up w/ some pretty ribbon! {see complete below}. though as of posting they are curiously already empty. and my valentine has yet to see them. must be a "mouse" in our kitchen.
i'm tickled to have my valentine ready to present hubby when the 14th rolls around! having completed this project got the gears turning on what else i could "shake up" on some lone shakers i had. so out they came {below}
i enlarged the stock size openings by gently pushing a screwdriver into the holes to accommodate what i was about to do with them. what was that you ask?? well i bought an econo bunch of baby's breath to make cheerful little contained bouquets. see 'em in the collage {below}
now they are happily spread across the cupboard just off our kitchen. so they are still close to their original homefront. but are now little "flower frogs" w/ fresh sprigs of green.
maybe you have been inspired to shake things up a bit! and you are off to make some perfect pairings of your own! remember...if you'd like to have the art for the banners i will have that ready to share in a couple days so peek back for that. a "banner" experience will be waiting!
shake it up BABY!
