hello all! every year i create a collage to send out as a postcard for patinaWHITE's annual event - exclusively for the wonderful folks on my mailing list. i have been doing so since the early beginnings & even with the advent of email marketing i stick with my ol' fashion snail mail. i have heard such great things from people who comment how they love getting the card in the mail & had one gal tell me she saves them all as little works of art hanging them on her fridge! wow! what an honor...i hope she leaves a little room for family photos!
a recent late eve found me donning my creative cap & going to work! paper fragments on the floor...glue embedded fingernails and one sleepless hubby = {the makings for a collage}! and on the topic of sleepless hubby...he just doesn't understand why i work feverishly into the night at times. my response? "you can't stifle creativity when it strikes", or in this case a looming print deadline may have had something to do with it!
so, won't you tag along as i take you on a little pictorial journey of the process?
out come the boxes full of ephemera bounty...this box {below} is honestly bursting at the seams! i have a bit of a paper "hoarder" issue - unable to bear the thought of throwing away one snippet of a beloved vintage letter. i have thought of implementing a system, where, if i can no longer pick up the paper without the aid of tweezers - then let it go...it has served it's purpose well. in the meantime i think i will buy another storage box!
here is the gathering {below} providing inspiration in the direction the collage will take. oh yes! please take note of the letter from europe addressed to a fellow in "amerika"! how fantastic!
and i can't forget to introduce the little girl {below} who's very face inspired the sassy saying you will soon see! she bears a striking resemblence to your's truly before i have had my morning caffeine!
onward to more boxes. this one {below} once upon a time "neatly" housed vintage cards of rick rack. it still does, but with a few more guests piled ontop (though not so neat anymore)! which reminds me of a favorite quote..."a creative mess is preferable to idle neatness". amen.
here {below} we have pencils selected to provide the accent shadowing.
and speaking of pencils...i have to show a most treasured possesion. my trusty set of art pencils have been with me since 1993. i'll let you do the math! no diamonds here...but they are really one this girl's best friends!
{below} elements are coming together! scissors don't fail me now!
i will spare you the shots of the glue...the paper trails...the 52 oz bubba keg full of diet coke. all the pieces of the puzzle that came together to create this {below}...ta dah!
be naughty...save santa the trip, indeed! this "naughty" little girl sits atop a present with a side note she's sure to ignore! and there you have it! the {makings of a collage}! thank you for tagging along with me thru the process! and for those of you on my mailing list...be on the lookout for this gal to make an appearance in a couple weeks! i hope all you naughty AND nice boys & girls have a very happy day!
Very clever. I love it! You really do have a knack for creating. I wish I lived closer and could come to your sale. Hope to see lots of pictures of the event. Enjoy your day.

I can't remember what lead me to your wonderful blog, but I'm so happy I found you! I'm a scrapper at heart, but like to experiment with 3D projects as well. I find your blog to be loaded with inspo. Your display techniques in your studio are awesome. (I do a lot of party and home decorating for the holidays as a personal assistant/shopper). If ever I venture to your part of the world (I'm in TX), I'm definitely finding your shop.
