crafty christmas...

hello my friends! in continuing with the spirit of the season i am again highlighting some more holiday accents in & around our home! i'd say it's been {4} years or so since i attended a gathering of created wares showcased by a talented family of gals in town. 

upon entering - i spied these fabulous re-creations...vintage thread spools accented by pretty lace & crystal prisms + this-n-thats {below}. i grabbed everyone of them! and would have grabbed some more!

 

oh the visionaries these girls are...they repurposed old curtain rings into collaged works of wonder...cute CUTE!

 

and if the above mentioned treats weren't enough...i couldn't pass on this little miss {below}. a heavenly gal created from sheet music!

friday's favorite {getting personal}

happy friday everyone! i have collected + created some fun goodies this week! 

you will see a number of functional AND stylish coatracks at patinaWHITE's november event! i fabricated this cutie {below} after one i designed for our entry! (see that HERE)

you can make it "personal" by adding the names of family members! a place for everyone's "stuff". and don't forget the family pooch! you can designate his/her's very own leash spot!

friday's favorite {lucky mom!}

hello hello! the projects are just rolling out of the workshop for patinaWHITE's studio event! today was a day filled with power tools & the chippy paint was flying! i just trekked back from the woodshop with a great crafted treasure + all ten fingers so i am thrilled! 

i have always been inspired by the wonderful moms in my life! so i was excited to make this {below} as a tribute to each & every one of you hard working, lovin' moms out there!

i can just see this hanging in an office or "mom's" special room! i attached hooks with a curly wire connector as a place to proudly showcase family photos & treasured children's drawings. isn't the original pale green paint accented with the giant old horseshoe just terrific? i thought so too! it will be waiting for a very "lucky mom"!

and speaking of lucky! i am a very lucky girl as well! my dad & stepmom made a trip to minnesota last weekend & i was thrilled to have them visit! and if their presence wasn't enough they surprised me with a fabulous gift - these vintage curtain pin packs. i have never seen anything of the sorts...my dad said they "looked like something i would like". yes indeed, dad! i ADORE them! here they are {below} sprinkled among my baby boos! many many thank yous for thinking of me in such a special way! definitely a "personal" friday favorite!

today is filled with many favorites! one more "favorite" came about from a scrap piece of ceiling tin from a bigger project. never one to throw a single fragment away i discovered that it is the perfect backdrop for vintage game tiles! i couldn't get it all in a picture together so enjoy it's {2} parts {below}!

friday's favorite {it's a 3 ring circus}

greetings! here we are again...another friday is upon us! and to continue with tradition - i'd like to "show & tell" you about my friday's favorite!

a medley of everyday objects find their way together to create this ringling bros. inspired "three ring circus" {below}. can't you just see it in your home ready to report to duty holding your jackets? or possibly a dog leash or two on it's vintage coathooks! and don't forget the "rings" waiting for your special mementos.

the trio of forgotten wheels {shown close-up below} look just splendid against the weathered surface of crackling paint!

the wheels on the bus (i mean wainscot door!) go round...

well, my circus is just getting started! unique wares are coming to life & arriving daily for their november premier at "the greatest show on earth"...or at least the northwoods of minnesota! thanks for checking in today! so from one ringmaster to the other...have a wonderful weekend under your own big top!

friday's favorite {climb'n 2 the top}

well hello show & tell friends + visitors! it's 8pm & i wasn't going to rest until i had finished my "friday's favorite" to share with you! sometimes a project takes MUCH longer than one plans & this happens to be one of those! but, the end result thrills me...have a gander {below} at some repurposing at it's finest!

this weathered ladder just seemed destined to serve more years in organizational grandeur. quirky, crooked & very charming i envisioned it standing proudly in an office waiting to report to duty! 

warm hued cork + vintage sign letters team up to not only be good look'n but hopefully add some ease to your hectic schedule!

every day of the week is represented...you might need a second ladder to reach sunday though! i figure it should be a day of rest so hopefully your schedule isn't too busy that given day!

top of the day (and eve) to you!

metal mania

happy monday all! yesterday, before opening patinaWHITE at the hollow, i took the rare oppurtunity to peruse the field vendor's wares. i happened on a table of darkened silver goodies that made me stop dead in my tracks. 

now i am sure you can imagine how i feel about "patina" given my business namesake and these were perfect examples of treasures that make my heart skip a beat! the mirror as shown {below} is marked with someone's scrawlings of mexico in the 70's. boy i am dating myself if i call this piece vintage! so let's just say it has weathered "well". 

and the same family of newbies to the market had a pile of silver serving pieces. the darker the better i say...and don't even dream of me trying to polish these lovelies {below}! they are fabulous as they are...isn't the natural green verdigris great? i agree!

all that "silver" above was scored for very little "green". less than a big mac value meal! all the pleasure and none of the guilt! so off i went to open for the day...and what a glorious day it was! ideal weather and a wonderful gathering of customers! i appreciate all of you who stopped by!

on the subject of wonderful customers...I have had the joy of working with a delightful pair of sister-in-laws. one inspired the other with her patinaWHITE find & she had to have a similar necklace for herself. so without further wait, here is her much anticipated pw original designed heart pendant {below}. a little bit of wisdom to remember everyday!

and to close today...the trips to the porta potties at the hollow are usually not newsworthy. that is until today! on my way back to work i spotted an adorable little clipboard. flaky metal paint and all! a perfect mememto display if i ever saw one! good thing i had the {one} US dollar it cost in my pocket!

friday's favorite {crazy collage}

greetings! friday is usually a "project" day for me when i often create or gather wares to showcase at shady hollow on the upcoming weekend. such as it is i have been showing & telling ya all about my friday's favorite lately. and today's has to be this fun "crazy collage" shown {below}.

i have amassed quite a collection of crusty ceiling tin fragments. i don't ever throw a scrap away! and what does one do with a bucket of odds-n-ends? a "crazy" collage of mixed metals inspired by the crazy quilts of days past!

an eclectic combination of patterns make for either a whimsical magnetic board or just a great artsy object to enjoy on your wall! i added magnets to vintage letter tiles to create the HOME {below} & layered it on the cut-out heart. afterall...home is where the heart is!

and there you have it! friday's favorite so far! i must be off now as there is a storm brewing in my mind and i have another woodshop project that calls to me to be created! i hope you continue to enjoy peeking at my favorites! have a wonderful weekend and stop by the hollow if you can to see what other "crazy" ideas i may have in the meantime!

who "wood" have thought?

hello friends!  as many of you know I work in a great many medias!  I do this not only to keep things fresh and exciting but to engage my mind & hands in various activities!  one area of interest has been wood!  of course I have always been a huge fan of crusty and weathered wood...especially beadboard!  I have spent a great deal of time of the years collecting patina'd woods & stacking it to the ceiling in the back of my studio storage!  I wanted to share with you some recent creations in the wood department.

my "fleur" blocks are a happy marriage of reclaimed farmhouse trims, metal accents and a time worn apothecary bottle...they are very cheerful and make a great accent!!  a fabulous way to showcase your garden flowers!

 

these are something I came up with when I stumbled on a massive collection of old drawers...I simply call them my "junk" drawers {below-2}.  they are lined with vintage beadboard and layered with distressed wooden letters....the lucky is a favorite as it sports a crusty & rusty horse shoe!

you can't see in the photos but the drawers all have their most fabulous old bin pulls still on them...I thought about salvaging them for my own greedy pleasure but they of course make it!  this is a dedication to my favorite tv personality...ELLEN.  she inspires me beyond words and I love that see breaks out into dance on her shows!

now this is partly wood...partly metal but I had to show it because I strutted around like a peacock on thursday when I made it!  I was so tickled with how it came out!  I acquired a box of salvaged metal pieces memorial weekend and they just begged to be played with!  I thought "WINGS"! when I saw them so I paired them with a cast off chair spindle...and TA DA!  junkyard butterfly at her finest!

incase your wondering...I am outfitted with a miter box...table saw...jig saw &.scroll saw.  and I still have all (let me count) 10 fingers!  my husband always is after me to respect the power tools and I do try hard to do so!  every now and then I enlist the talents of my carpenter friend terry but do much of the cutting...glueing...stapling and finish work myself!  on this occasion terry did construct the pockets for the following feature item {below}...but I did the finish work on my end.  a pairing of vintage shutter and pockets = one fun way to house magazines or artsy file folders!  I added the chalkboard tags for customization! gotta love beauty & function!

well on that note I am off to the workshop to see what inspires me this morning!  somedays I have a plan and others I let the materials lead the way!  thanks for stopping...have a wonderful day "wood" you!? beth

what can you buy for the price of {1} gallon of gas?

not much these days...right!?  well my friends...let's just say I awoke this morning early and decided to take in {1} rummage sale that caught my attention in the paper.  and to quote..."old wood, antiques & quilts." say no more....I am off! 

now, I don't know about your neck of the woods, but sometimes I happen on sales & thrift stores with items tagged a bit beyond silly high! well, this wasn't such an occasion.  in-fact the prices were so low I thought they were mismarked!  

join me as I revisit my delightful selection of goodies...so reasonably priced that everything shown was just a tad more than the price of one gallon of gas here in town...currently $2.51 a gallon.  subject to change at any moment of course! 

the little cash register flags reflect what I paid...and they looked darn cute too!

I have been wanting a shaving mirror for our bathroom for a long time! I see them now & then but they don't thrill me at $20 and up.  well, this little honey {below} was...yes...$.75.  can you stand it?

now that I have your attention!  take a little looksie at this {below}...so incredibly cute I could do the happy dance! a tiny heart shaped vial on a pin.  in original box.  for the price of one US quarter!

how can it get any better than this, right?  well ladies & gentleman...hold onto your hats...don't be green...and have a gander at my best find EVER!  this old leaded glass window {below}.  not a piece broken and yes, the tags are correct!  this just shows that sometimes the early bird does indeed get the worm!  I pranced like nobody's business when I saw this!  really!  can you blame me?  

 

after that winning stop I decided to call it quits and didn't go to one more sale!  as I scurry around tonight getting things in order for our second weekend open at the hollow I just had to sit myself down and do a little show & tell...this was one outing worth the mention!  thanks for following along on my thrifty adventure!  and remember...sometimes a gallon of gas can go a long way!  happy day!  beth
