what i wore {a GREY area}

greetings! where or where has the week done gone? been meaning to get over to this corner of my world every single day. but then this came up...then that...and OH! look...a distraction! i can hardly navigate a day without my share of those! especially when i pass something shiny & sparkly! 

well...i wasn't going forward (1) more moment without planting myself {momentarily} to chat w/ you today! it's been a little while since i've done a {what i wore} segment ... so no time like the present. i'll start by showing a collage {below} of my "grey area" and resume w/ details below.

 

lace seems to be very prominent in the apparel industry lately. but i'm actually not much of a shopper. well...let me rephrase. i am not a "retail" shopper. tjMAXX is one of the handful of places i look for garments. and sometimes the racks of clothing can be overwhelming to dive into. but the nice thing about my love of lace....it's easy to pick up the texture in a sea of shirts. which was just the case when i spotted the grey crocheted top. i knew i had enough layering tank tops...and of course a selection of jeans. (have i done a what i wore where i DIDN'T have on jeans?) 

call me predictable again...as you can bet there is usually a pair of boots that my jeans are tucked in. my studded frye boots {an eBay find shown below} ended up not disappointing w/ their many shades of grey. both in leather & hardware!

 

 

then of course there's the "jewels". i had on (3) necklaces. the top layer was a $2 find i believe to be a throwback of the 80's. the giant metal "orbs" were already tarnished when i spotted her. actually that was caught my eye!

in the middle...my treasured personal creation -relicsREINVENTED. i will show you a closer peek {below} incase you didn't catch the post about her coming about ages ago. she was a one of those "someday" projects i actually made happen. so glad i did. i'll have to remember this...my SOMEDAY is NOW.

 

 

the last longest layer is another artisan's work. a large brass key and wonderful mix of wooden beads + green stones create an earthy dangle that i adore. {you can see it a bit closer in the first photo collage above}.

even my jeans i decided on had their own shades of grey in the stitching throughout. the blue wash was a cool compliment to to my "grey day" or should i say "gray day"? i always wonder about the different spellings. oops. distraction again! anywho...you can see the contrast of colors + texture closer {below}.

 

 

goes to show that even a "grey" day can be fun! ok...must run for now...i have ideas for blogs...creations...hope to be back soon w/ what comes about. if i can collect my thoughts long enough. hey...is that a pair of rhinestone earrings to be reinvented {below}?? and those others bits...

 

oh geez...more distractions. so much for the "to do list"!

what i wore {a few of my FAVORITE things}

hey there show&TELL!  time for a little {what i wore}. hubby & i joined another couple to have a dinner out for newYEARSeve. well...it was really an early "eve" for this girl. our "date" was set for 5:30pm as i was feelin' a little punky yet from that darn "bug" that's going 'round. so here's a little pictorial mention of the items i donned to celebrate getting out of the house for the first time in days! 

as i was spending some time "resting"...i did the mental run through of my baubles pondering what i would wear. i had an idea of the apparel i would be donning...so i figured i'd do a layering of some of FAVORITE THINGS in terms of necklaces. turquoise. check. twinklin' vintage rhinestone. got 'em. a heavy dose of "patina". well that "shadowbox" encased key should fit the bill. here's what they looked liked put together {below}

 

 

and here's some of the elements that came together for the eve's attire...

my tasha polizzi black leather jacket was an eBay leap of faith as i didn't know how the fit would be. thankfully it hit the mark.

a larger than life buckle {flea find!} buckle on a thrift store found black leather belt keeps the balance of accessories in check.

wardrobe staples of dark denim jeans + a black lace longsleeve are basics that seem anything but when you mix in some accessories. {see those items below} 

 

 

i wanted to wear a bracelet...and then i recalled this newer member to patinaWHITE's line-up...a fantastic wire wrapped relic w/ the right mix of baubles. i love the whimsical mix of bling + buttons. see it close {below}

 

it wouldn't be time for a celebration without a pair of boots to get me there. so i slipped on a favorite pair of my old gringos w/ occasion appropriate SPARKLE to get kicky in. as "kicky" as i was, that is, once i rolled off the couch!

 

 

and though i didn't it till the midnight hour (more like i made all of 8 o'clock) before i went from jewels to jammies...i am happy {and RELIEVED} to report that as i type this...my health has returned. makes me very thankful for the time that my body feels good after a stint like that! and i hope this finds you happy & healthy yourself! thanks for popping by and peeking...

what i wore {going GUNSMOKE}

greetings show & tell! time for a little WHAT I WORE segment. some of you may remember back this summer my thrift store war posting where i talked about my big sis & i entering into a friendly battle of the goods @ my local thrift. we have very like tastes...thus were vying for the cool hats & boots on that occasion.

i ended up with some fun elements for my fall wardrobe. and put them to the test this past weekend on a date night w/ my hubby. when i was "all decked out"...hubby's response was that i looked like a character from the tv show, gunsmoke. i smiled and took it as a compliment. so here's what i wore...

 

first was the graphically driven jacket. this was NOT one of things my sis wanted. infact she looked @ the jacket and said she was sure i would make it work. translation...she wasn't going to fight me for it. so work it i did...with another find from that day. a gentleman's wool hat...with a fantastic feather accented band. {see it below} brilliant pop of color!

 

 

and since accessories make the girl...i didn't stop with just the hat. oh no. got out some "witchy" boots w/ crazy silly pointed toes that i have had {4}ever. i don't wear them often...because there is a very small window of "comfort" if you will...that my feet and i agree on.  but i sucked it up knowing most of the eve would be spent sitting. and eating. not too taxing on the ol' toes. 

i also stacked up a medley of bracelets for a mixed-up effect. there's {2} vintage lucite + {2} contemporary bangles intertwined between a long length of leather lace. loved the casual effect it created.

 

 

and of course i wouldn't go without some necklaces. note the plural because i don't think i can recall many occasions where i wear only one. today it was two. because i threw in some earrings...and heavens....i wouldn't want to overdo it! i went w/ a chunky look pairing up the GIANT 80's metal ball number {the tarnish made me love it even more than the $2 price tag}.... w/ a favorite shadowbox pendant. the earrings are an antique clip-on pair of disco-ish rhinestone globes. everything is hanging out {below} on my seashell accented antler mount.

 

 

the only accessory i was missing was the smokin' gun! so we hoped on our trusty white steed {pickup} and off we galloped into the sunset. where the chuck wagon dining was oh so very good. and cheesecake dessert was even better. those cowboys really do know how to cook! 

now i'm back in the saddle yet again...wearing my dickies this time and off to the work shoppe i go to get some projects together for the perham bazaar.

what i wore {sitting duck}

hello out there! i feel it's time for a MJ update! it's been a little while since i have filled you in. and it's been even longer since i've done a {what i wore} segment! so let's {not} kill two birds with one stone. that just doesn't seem right to say anymore! 

i know i have alot of new visitors these days! sure appreciate you peeking @ my corner of the world...and hope you will continue to do so! just so ya know...my post topics are all over the board. sometimes i'll babble on about something i've made...a treasure i found...a bit about my business - patinaWHITE...and probably a whole lot of random that i hope makes you giggle. 

 

 

that all being said...i'll bring you newbies up to speed. grab some coffee. i predict a short novel today. otherwise i won't mind if you skip to the pictures for those of you visually inspired! 

MJ is my "stray" duck i found a few months or so ago. she was days...maybe even just hours old. we think she was a slow hatcher. long story short...{i always say that but seldom mean it}...i found her running down the lane to our house. no other duck family in sight but a stone's throw from our neighbor with more than a few cats.  so i brought her home...

we raised her to be a thriving little wood duck. i think i did a pretty good job. i did everything i thought a mama duck would do short of growing feathers of my own. she has brought more joy and laughter to our lives this summer than i can even recount. the stories i have could fill pages. and if you can't tell...i'm pretty attached. but i had to follow the old saying of "if you love something set it free" and have never restrained her when she learned to fly. the last two weeks have found her leaving in the morning when we open the garage door {her save haven @ night} and returning around 6:30-7:30 at night. 

so let's just say i haven't strayed too far  from home these days during the eve. and sometimes that can put a pinch onto those occasions when i can't be watching and waiting. case in point. dad & step-mom visited last week. and of course we never miss a chance for us to go to our always favorite restaurant...spanky's stone hearth. so when asked when i wanted to eat i responded 5pm. now know that i seldom eat @ this time. infact last night dinner at home was @ 8pm. i would have likely even said sooner but that's when they open so 5 it is!

i did enjoy the company + dinner...but it was pretty clear to everyone when i was fidgeting around in my seat @ 6:30 what was going on. {and nope...it wasn't a bathroom break i was after}. i was wanting to see MJ come home. so we left...with everyone giggleing at the crazy duck lady. 

when we got home i saw her dish was nearly emptied of corn and no sign of her. my heart sank. told hubby she had left since i wasn't there to greet her. he said call our her name...upon which i did. and lo & behold out from hiding she appeared. apparently in the good company of some friendly dust bunnies {see below}. i was thrilled!

 

 

i didn't want to waste anytime changing clothes...so i scooted over to her tiny wading pool where we normally hang out til she returns. so there i was...in our yard...sitting in the grass in my nice duds and high heels. with my little girl snuggled up to me. since i didn't have a good mom and daughter pic yet figured no time like the present...so here we were {below} just like "sitting ducks".

 

 

ok. i think i've worn out the MJ novelty with you all. so onto {what i wore}! besides my "feathered" accent i wore one of my favorite necklaces. this lovely {below} was not created by my hand...but a wildly talented gal who works i have had the honor of offering @ patinaWHITE.

 

 

it's a necklace with a tiny butterfly wing in a vial...a vintage heart charm...hand forged cameo and an old pocket-knife. note how i just slipped that in like it's a normal media used in ladies jewelry! but really...it gives a visual punch + touch of whimsy. especially when i flick that baby open when asked about it.

i adore that mustard hued jacket. had it awhile. and the lace shirt i wore underneath has been hanging in the closet for a couple years or more. honestly...i can't even remember when i got the shoes either. in so many words these duds are "well seasoned". i find it fun to snazz up an outfit w/ the accessories. and on this occasion i brought out some of my favorite collected relics to do just that!

so there you go...i wonder if MJ was impressed with my change of attire? she usually finds me in much more casual clothing. usually i wear sweats + a tank top. i do this because...well...lets just say that she doesn't give alot of warning when nature calls. and she didn't seem to mind sharing that night either. which is why you don't see a picture of the jeans i wore!  i know...to much information beth! going for the "exit" giggle here! 

til the ramblings commence once again...have yourself a WONDERFUL day! 

what i wore...tickled pink!

greetings! with the onset of spring i couldn't help but introduce a bit of color into my attire the day i was gathering up potato baskets for my recent "lampshade". so here's a little peek @ what i wore...and then a bit of my usual wordiness to follow!

this occasion found me in a shirt by my always favorite...3J workshop. it was more of a pop of color than i normally wear. but once in awhile i like to break out of my usual earthy inspired palette. miss me jeans provide some interest w/ the heavy white stitching thoughout. with my potato basket fistfuls...i feel like i should be ready for the next easter egg hunt!

something else that tickles me pink is the fresh flowers i treat myself to this time of the year. these baby rosebuds were a mere five dollar investment. i have enjoyed their happy addition to our bedroom for days!

a found pocket watch was the focal point of today's baubles...i have a little story on that...but will revisit another day when the timing {no pun intended!} is right.

and finally. boots. big surprise right?! old gringo. another shocker. by now if you follow my what i wore segment you have probably figured out there are about {3} brands i am forever loyal to & this company is one of them. i thought the wine colored leather on the cactus style was a perfect compliment to my pinky ensemble! bring on the easter bunny! me & my baskets are ready!

what i wore...london fog

hello everyone! i know it's cliche to continue to talk about the weather...but we have had some crazy fronts that just seems fitting to talk about! case in point. my usual drive home this morning was hindered by a very thick blanket of fog. if it wouldn't have been for that mysterious arrow {below} i may still be driving in circles!

with the mild weather i find that i am able to wear the less bulky cold weather gear and enjoy some lighter layering combinations. today was just such an occasion! so have a peek below @ what i wore...and join me after the photo collage for some commentary!

driving the last couple fog-laden days have definitely been on a wing & a prayer just as my artisan crafted spoon pendant {above left} indicates! i had a handful of these works of art @ my holiday event last november and the response was so overwhelming that i am working with the talented couple who makes them to have a new flock for the spring reopening of shady hollow! 

next up is the whole shebang. hubby teases me that my vest is conan the barbarian-ish. he may be a little bit correct but just incase...the faux "animal instincts" continue on with a leopard scarf over my newly acquired harley zipper tunic. and intentional holes in my jeans carryout the "primitive" vibe! you will recognize the studded boots from before. haven't taken them off since the last what i wore segment!

ladies...hold onto your purses! i had been eyeing this canvas bag online for AGES. then...a gal @ my holiday event happened to have one on her arm. i circled her for a couple minutes before moving in and asking if she'd mind if i inspected closer rather than continue stalking her around my studio. well. that hands on visit was all i need to cement that i did indeed need one! and not only did i grab one for myself...but i brought in some stock to be a part of patinaWHITE's new line up!

well that about wraps it up for today. no more talk of the weather. at least for this week. {now that's it's nearly over}! hot on the heels of this post will be my office reveal on monday. incase you were wondering. i haven't lost my way. because i have signs along the way to guide me!

what i wore {regal ruffles}

hey everyone! hope you all had a wonderful holiday! this week is always a recovery period for me. the flurry of activities leading up to a full weekend of holiday celebrations calls for a bit of r&r. that'd be "regal ruffles" in my world and hence the perfect opportunity to share one more what i wore segment for 2011! have a peek {below} and join me after that for the commentary!

on my travels i like to scout out talented artisans to make patinaWHITE's jewelry line up unique. and that was the case with both the necklace + bracelet i am wearing. often times my best customer {me} adds them to her collection though. we will see if i can part with the other pieces i picked up!

these jewels felt quite "regal". the necklace is simple and yet a statement piece with it's picture frame-like quality + classic clear stone center. the bracelet is over the top fabulous created from a repurposed belt, baubles plus a large religous relic that dangles down over my hand. 

such jewels called for a top that was equally as regal. and the ruffles of one of my favorite sweaters fit the bill! plus the pockets of my tried, true and blue pair of jeans were equally as splendid. 

thought i'd save what i consider the "best" for last! my boots. oh goodness do i love 'em. what would a what i wore be without baubles & boots? incase you can't see them in their glory above...here's another glimpse {below}

the frye boot company "nailed" this one w/ hundreds of tiny studs scattered about their shafts. indeed they are fit for a queen. or at least the queen of this household!

what i wore...sticks 'n stones

hey there show & tell friends!

no broken bones here! but i did have a day recently filled with them there sticks & stones! i had a number of orders to fill for a patinaWHITE favorite...twiggy towers topped off with a star. so we packed up the truck & trailer and headed on the road to stock up on "sticks".

a detour thru the "city" gave way to me begging to make just one stop or "so". {"so" leaves it more open to "negotiation" with hubby...i've learned never to commit to a number.) first stop was the floral supply store. only item on my list was giant sugar pinecones to which they had none left. not one to leave a stop empty handed...i opted for a few big bundles of curly willow. i was happy with the sub, and mr bill was happy with the in & out quick-like visit.

we moved onto stop number two. hunt & gather antiques. this time i warned my sweetheart i would not be as swift moving. i planned on doing just as their name indicated. even he would admit this is one cool place. that and they have sweet treats for their customers. a brilliant idea for toddlers and husbands alike! barely in the door and i was lured into a display or sparkly baubles. a pair of rhinestone studded ''globe" earrings fascinated me.

not one to wear earrings these days...i looked @ their old fashion clip application and thought i would pop one on and see if it bothered my sensitive lobe. i then proceeded to "gather" up a small pile of treasure. paid for it and scooted back to the truck where hubby had been waiting. {dum-dum lollipops will only distract him for so long}.

a few blocks down the road i glanced in the side mirror when a glint caught my eye. good heavens! i was still wearing that lone earring! guess it didn't bother me a bit as i left the place with it still dangling from my ear! now i had to not only beg hubby to navigate back thru the overcrowded streets, but walk in and explain my actions! the girls had a good laugh @ the nutty lady wearing one earring and gushing that i was not a thief. i figured that i best be buying them no matter what but was quite glad i did as i wore them the rest of the trip. {with a clean conscience!}

so now you have the "stones" part of the story. i know it's getting long...but i had to share the fun leading up to what i wore! so have a gander @ the collage {below} and continue on for more ramblings underneath that!

top left- me with my "sticks"... a bundle of willow and one of the twiggy tree towers. this is an occasion where the accessories make the girl. my "animal instinct" inspired jacket was a tj maxx find. it keeps me toasty warm and looks great while doing so!

clockwise...the infamous earrings. i am now a fan of vintage clip earrings for their intended use. which opens a whole 'nother door for me.

what would a what i wore segment be without a pair of boots?? old gringo of course! and this pair is called "cactus". fitting for all the inlaid succulents that adorn it. kind of close to my stick theme, right,?? ok...not really, but i tried.

lastly...a tangled cluster you've likely seen before. it's my treasure relic creation. but a new addition did make it's way to the layering recently and this time it does indeed fit the theme. the diminutive vintage rhinestone necklace was a thrift store find. it added just the right amount of shine to the gathering.

so ends the journey. but i had to share {1} more photo with ya! i have already been getting in new goodies to premier @ the opening of my summer cottage next year. these fab and functional baskets fit the topic today. and with the addition of one of my chalkboard tags they will be ready for action!

what i wore..puddle jumpin'

hello there show & tell friends! i have to say that a morning of rain sprinkles thrills me. why? well that'd be because it gives me the opportunity to cut out my favorite pair of rain boots! yep...takes little to excite this girl. but when you combine the beauty of leopard print w/ the swank of kitten heels & the function of rain slickers...it means there will be some serious puddle jumpin' ahead!

top left...movin' around clockwise...

a light load. today found me wearing {1} necklace. am i feeling alright? pretty much a rarity that you will find me any given day with less than {2}! but this necklace sporting a vintage key from italy...is super long & allows for wrapping. plus a scarf on-board limits the baubles i can get away with!

off the cuff! well if i am going light on necklace end...then the wrist must pick up the slack! i have been scoring some seriously unique + fabulous bracelets for patinaWHITE's holiday event. and shown above is a layering of a funky silver mesh "mangled" number & a reclaimed belt sporting a hand-stamped "ACE" in the hole. i am thrilled with how the pairing of the two turned out! 

raindrops keep fallin' on my head. that's because the vintage cloth parasol i used for the photo opp isn't @ all functional. just a darn fun way to spiff up the photo! faded blue jeans paired with the contrast of a dark denim shirt play the neutral backdrop for 'dem boots {plus a chocolate rose printed scarf}!

ME-OW. here's what started it all. my DAV rainboots. super warm & comfy...i love skipping {ok...more like walking} around in them. the resilient heels actually put the spring in my step!

FEELING KNOTTY? grab a long scarf..fold in half...wrap around neck dropping only one tail thru the loop. then take the loose tail...grab the other tail...and tie knots up until you've reach your ideal level of "knotiness".

which brings us right back where we started from!

thought i would now show you a peek @ some patinaWHITE "off the cuff" wares {below}...ones that will be available to make your very own @ my event in one week! i am asked all the time about a silver/gold reclaimed metal cuff i wear. well i was lucky enough to nab some similar versions to share! don't forget the selection of stamped "belt" bracelets & of course...the fabulous mangled mesh will also be waiting! 

by the time of this post the rain has subsided and the meowy boots are back in storage just waiting for the next opportunity to do some puddle jumpin'. i hope this finds you inspired to take on the weather...come rain, sun or dare i say...snow!

what i wore...DMV me

hey everyone! so i mentioned a couple posts back that recently my go to "uniform" has been my trusty pair of dickies. there may be a time i show you the not so glamorous side to my "what i wore" segment with those babies on...but not today. no siree. moving on....

it was time to renew my license. which of course meant i felt the need to "clean up" a bit. not that you hardly see clothes on a drivers license...but it's still a photo that tags along w/ you the next 4 years. so i curled my hair...threw on some casual attire + baubles & off to the dreaded line of the DMV i go.

upon arrival i actually was the first person of the day! no lines...no fuss...nice! almost made the eye check & bad photo op worthwhile. SAY CHEESE...the gal told me that the camera was a little low...thus showing more of my neck. just fine by me i said...i'd much rather see the necklace i was wearing than not!

she then gave me the opportunity to peek @ the picture...and asked if i wanted to try again. i thought to myself..."does she really know what she is opening herself up too??". i could potentially be the first and last customer of the day if i tried for a shot i liked! so i declined and went about my business.  

and with that rambling side note, here is what i wore...DMV me!

i doubt i even have to say what kind of boots those are. yep. old gringo. elvis stitch. this style is a bit more "dressy" with pointy toes and a higher heel. and in traditional old gringo form...FABULOUS! 

seems like a safe mode of transport...me on the lil vintage scooter. well safe speed that is. i would probably break my neck hustling around on this relic! no drivers license needed here!

see that bracelet? yes i said bracelet. just call me E.T...cause i can phone home anytime i wear this! who needs a cell phone when you have a one of a kind cuff created from a rotary phone dial + reclaimed leather. unique for sure! it's a bit loose on...so i wear it over my shirt this occasion. 

i am a creature of habit. i find a brand of jeans i love & jump on the fan wagon. currently...that brand is true religion. love the bottoms so much that now i have started searching for the tops. {here's a tip on true religion...ebay my friends...much better savings!} i found a western inspired paisley top with denim accents. now i know why i am a fan! adore this shirt...

this ain't my 1st rodeo. by that i mean this ain't my 1st rodeo buckle. you can rope up your own giant "trophy" @ thrift stores + flea markets alike. of course a worn, tooled leather belt makes the package complete! 

and there you have it! now let's hope that if the situation arises when an officer of the law is asking for my license & registration he is distracted by the fabulous necklace in the photo and forgets about what ever law i may have been breaking. not that i do that...or do that thinking i will get caught!

now...back to the dickies i go...this "glam" girl has to get back @ it...
